Last month I posted three lists of bands on PA from the Middle East:
http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=129001" rel="nofollow - http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=129001
http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=129021" rel="nofollow - http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=129021
http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=129035" rel="nofollow - http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=129035
At the time, I also starded a list for the Far East, and decided to divide it into two. Here's the first, listing bands from the Far East and India (except Japan, which has tons of artists and would need its own list).
(Up-coming part II will be Southeast Asia which I will probably post sometime in the next few days)
Note that it may not include all bands listed here on PA--my searches are not always completely thorough. Also I started the list last month, so it is slightly out of date. Please list any artists I may have missed, or may not be listed on PA. Otherwise comment on any of the bands you really like or may recommend.
One thing that surprises me is that there aren't more bands from South Korea!
Here's the list (Sorted by Sub-Genere).

Cold Fairyland is my Chinese favourite which I won't classify as Neo-Prog, though.
I'd say, their best album is Seeds on the Ground, very influenced by traditional Chinese music.
The band leader, Lin Di, has made two fine, with incredibly beautiful vocals, solo albums as well.
Very nice list by the way - even the numbers of ratings are very small compared to what you find on RYM.
------------- quality over quantity, and all kind of PopcoRn almost beyond

Thanks, I'll have to check out Cold Fairyland. I'm sure RYM is a much better-known site that PA.

I like Jambinai and their incorporation of traditional Korean instruments. A couple of South Korean groups not on PA that I recommend are Black String and Dongyang Gozupa. Both could be considered post rock.
Also, not on PA, is math rock band Elephant Gym from Taiwan.

Thanks for mentioning those! I suspected there had to be more bands in S. Korea and Taiwan that for one reason or another just haven't gotten added to PA.

Jambinai is an awesome band and I have 2 of their albums. As mentioned above they use traditional instruments and a heavy Post Metal sound. The only other one I had was Cold Fairyland which was pretty good just not my thing.

Passed over by PA, Chamber / Post Rock band Cicada from Taiwan has been producing absolutely stunning music (and videos) for about 13 years now. Lead composer/pianist Jesy Chiang is, in my opinion, an absolute genius. Check them out on YouTube! Also love, love, LOVE, Jambinai. One of my favorite discoveries from the past few years.
Thanks for this list, Bill! I look forward to exploring a LOT of new music!

Thanks for the post: I suspect there are many other bands in the Asian woodwork that have been passed over or are yet undiscovered by PA.
Glad you will explore: I post these lists mainly for that reason; also to motivate myself to explore more, but with everything going on in life, it's usually a slow process.
