Where do we start?
As you've gone for the most obvious to date, impress your friends
with some obscure stuff, e.g. Touch, Collegium Musicium, Ibis, Advent,

Please try -at least- these Italian progressive albums: "Felona E Sorona" ( by Le Orme) and "Zarathustra" (by Museo Rosenbach). You won't regret, guaranteed!!!

Two MAJOR bands not in your list: Pink Floyd and Van Der Graaf Generator (sounds a bit like King Crimson sometimes, Fripp is a guest player on a few albums)

There's so much prog out there.Check out the reviews section of the site, that should give you a few pointers! I'll throw a few bands in though:
Flower Kings,Par Lindh Project and Anglagard -all Swedish and all excellent.
And from the UK - IQ and Magenta. Magenta's 'Seven' album is getting a lot of play in my car at the moment!

If you really want something complex and Avant-Garde, try legend french band MAGMA.
If you want something completely crazy , try Porcupine Tree and Gong

Check out Devin Townsend - Terria. I've only had it for a few months now but it's easily among my all-time favorites.

Porcupine Tree, completely crazy? I have Lightbulb sun, and I find it a little boring, actually. Nice, but not crazy...

Can't agree more with Richardh about the Swdish bands, probably the most symphonic group of talented musicians I ever heard.
Just add Anekdoten to complete the list, their debut album VEMOD is simply outstanding.

Maybe so, but WHY is it boring...?
![](smileys/smiley1.gif)
My opinion and observations of the music are in my review, but really there seems to be little that is progressive about Lightbulb Sun - it's a nice rock album, though. I'm open to persuasion otherwise, as ever...
No-one's mentioned Mahavishnu Orchestra, Twelfth Night or Amon Duul II??? ![](smileys/smiley5.gif)
Check these bands out as a matter of urgency!

Check out their earlier stuff!!!!!!!
I think they got into progarchives primarily on the basis of albums like On the Sunday of Life, Up the Downstair and Signify. That's why they're listed as psychadelic rock. I love Lightbulb Sun, but I also agree that it only borders on prog. The same could be said of their other newer albums.

Iván | Ivan`s right definitely check this one out before you go bankrupt. You might want to check out a Hungarian band called omega but just the stuf from the 70`s.

I was thinking of picking up some Amon Duul II. My only worry is the singer doesn't speak english. Can someone tell me if she sings in english or german?
Oh...check out Henry Cow for something a little different. My favorite is Van der Graaf Generator and Peter Hammill. Those are of course good suggestions as well.

Does the singer of Amon Duul II speak english?....yes or no? If no I will not buy. That is just how I am. I like to understand what is being sung. When I cannot, it takes away from the experience.
