Peter Gabriel: great disappointment: since I liked him so much with Genesis I was hopeful about his solo works, but...

Peter Hammill: I ADORE him, expecially "Silent corner", "In camera" "Nadir"...

Dave Stewart: I like Egg, but his incredible in Rotter's Club, best Canterbury I've ever heard

Zappa: v. Peter Gabriel, except Peaches en Regalia, masterpiece

Gong: great band, my fav album is Angel's egg, but Camembert Electrique is fantastic as well

Bill Bruford: nothing expecial, but "Back to the beginning" is remarkable

    • Peter Gabriel : Us and Up (not just because I like albums with short names) also Secret World Live
    • The Nice : I haven't heard many, I have Elegy and its extended double version Keith Emerson with the Nice... Both are well.
    • Peter Hammill : Solo: Nadir's Big Chance, Silent Corner. VdGG: Pawn Hearts, Still Life
    • The Strawbs : I have more than 10 albums in mp3, but haven't heard all extensively. So far Just a Collection of Antiques is fine. Better than post-Wakey era.
    • Univers Zero No idea
    • Dave Stewart (in all his incarnations, Egg/National Health/Hatfield) Only heard Egg debut. Great!
    • Frank Zappa Definitely Hot Rats!!! then goes Waka Jawaka, Grand Wazoo and Sleep Dirt...
    • Gong : Flying Teapot, Gong est Mort, Live etc. For Pierre Moerlen leaded Fusion period, Downwind full stop!
    • Roxy Music : For Your Pleasure
    • Bill Bruford : I can only count for Yes albums Close to the Edge and Fragile! Oh! I forgot King Crimson! Larks, Starless and Red... Great Deceiver is also great!

yea, it's a lot, but I'm curious to see what others think of these artists, so pick your favorite albums, and say whatever you want...

    I'll post my favorites later...

    Peter Gabriel -

The Nice - I have a cheap "Best Of" on vinyl. I listened to it twice.

Peter Hammill - With VDGG - Godbluff. I've yet to REALLY explore his solo work.

The Strawbs - I have Grave New World. It's all right.

Univers Zero - Very good music if you fancy something daaaaark. Their catalogue is a bit samey, though. It seems like they took the track "Ruins" by Henry Cow and spun umpteen albums from it. Heresie is my pick.

Dave Stewart - Egg and Hatfield showed him at his peak. Hatfield's storming new lineup has finally disproved the myth that he was irreplacable. Ummm... The Rotter's Club? Nah, that's more Sinclair/Pyle's album. I'll go for Polite Force with Egg.

Frank Zappa - Innovator, "rock" composer, humourist, genius. Unfortunately, he could never tell the difference between the good stuff and the bollocks. We're Only In It, Hot Rats or Waka/Jawaka for me.

Gong - Much as I enjoy areas of the wider "Gong Family", the Camembert-You period will never be beat. Oh, and they inadvertantly spawned Ozric Tentacles. Prog I can play in anyone's car! Hooray! Right now I'm enjoying Camembert Electrique the most but traditionally I've said Angel's Egg.

Roxy Music - Too poppy for my ears.

Bill Bruford - I need to give his solo stuff a second chance.
