Knowing that many prog fans like classical music too, I guess some of you guys might be into opera.

For my own part, I was very much raised with classical music, so I've often attended opera performances as a kid, or I've watched them on television. Since my aunt is a retired alto singer, we often attended operas in which she performed, and this includes Wagner's Ring which, undoubtedly, has had a big impact on me. Other favourites include most of Mozart's operas, Verdi's Falstaff, Richard Strauss' Salome and Britten's Peter Grimes.

Bellini: Norma

Tchaikovsky: Eugene Onegin, Pique Dame

Bizet: Carmen

Donizetti: Elisir d'amore, La Fille de Regiment

Dvorak: Rusalka

Beethoven: Fidelio

Mozart: The Da Ponte operas...

sorry to be so orthodox, but will that do for starters??

Not really my thing generally speaking, but two that stand out to me are Schoenberg's Moses & Aron and Ligeti's Le Grand Macabre, although it's been a while since I've heard the latter.

Wagner's Tannhauser is my favorite, and also Richard Strauss's Arabella, especially the wartime recording conducted by Clemens Krauss.

Oh, and Berlioz's La Damnation De Faust.
