I realize I may just be missing something obvious, but when I am on the forum page of an artist and click to start a new forum topic, I get sent to the the general forum page. Can someone kindly help me to figure out how to create a forum topic on an artist that appears under the forum page for that particular artist?

First of all, make sure that the thread you'd like to start doesn't already exist in the forum.
1. Go to the artist page.
In the upper part of the page (below the photo and bio) you'll see either "No topics found for : "band_name"" or the list of forum topics (like, for example, http://www.progarchives.com/artist.asp?id=418" rel="nofollow - here ).
If a proper topic exists, click it and post your message.
If there are no suitable topic, use the Forum Search function (the button after FAQ in the right upper part of the http://www.progarchives.com/forum/default.asp" rel="nofollow - main forum page ). Try different search options (takes time to practice). In case of success post your message in the topic you found.

2. If the search gives nothing:
- go the  http://www.progarchives.com/forum/default.asp" rel="nofollow - main forum page  once again, select a proper thread and start New Topic
or
- go to the artist page, click "Create a topic now", select a proper thread and start New Topic.

Hope this helps. More detailed step-by-step instruction would take a lot of time, the best way is to try by yourself. Good luck!

Thanks a lot for your help. I appreciate the additional info, but my problem is that when I click on the "create a new topic now" on an artist forum page, I get transferred to the general forum page. I can then create a topic by selecting one of the categories in that page (for ex, prog lounges and bands), but I would prefer to have this new thread show up under the artist's page if possible.

I don't know what you mean by "artist forum page". Confused

What I mean is, for example, if I go to the Jethro Tull page, when I click on forum discussions, I can see a list of Jethro Tull forum topics. At the bottom of this list, there is the icon "create a topic now". But when I click on this icon, I get to the forum home page and I see a list of general categories of topics. I can select one of these categories to create a topic but it would appear only under that category, not the JT forum discussion page.

Hi,

I'm not sure that the database has specific "forums" for any individual artists. They would have some posts based on an album or someone's comment on the band, but I don't think there is any specific area about an artist, other than the bio and introduction to where the reviews are, and I think that you can only post reviews there. I have to re-check though. I imagine that with the well known bands, you will find a reasonable choice of threads somewhere. (I would separate the internet stuff from the PA stuff -- att: admins!)

The really sad thing is that searching for many of those bands listed on bios and introduction, gives us a lot of the internet ... NOT THE PA threads about that band, which (for me) would be MASSIVELY BETTER, while also showing some local appreciation instead of the bouillabaisse that is the internet's information!

NOTE: (For the general info department, bouillabaisse is usually made from all the left overs!!!)

there is no artist forum discussion page. The threads are on the forum, that's where discussions are.
On the artists page you can rate and write reviews.

Ok, thank you all for your responses and advice (accept things as they are...as I think Buddha said Smile). I think I misunderstood how this worked.  Sorry if I wasted a bit of your time!

Hi,

I'm not sure that is a "progressive" thought or idea. The music that we love so much would not have happened if that were the attitude of many of those folks!

You have to be more of yourself, than accepting the "normal" and "conventional" or any artistic vision will not have any chance. And, in this day and age of commercialization, your comment has a way of saying ... that progressive/artistic music is over! Cry

not what he meant by far.
Notaproghead was referring to the site, links and technicalities, a newbie trying to figure out how the site works.

Hi,

Not exactly what I thought, as my mind saw a comment that said ... this is all we have and that's that ... meaning that no changes, improvements and updates will be possible, which would be extremely sad.

I'm actually ok with your comment to the point where most of you guys working the site are volunteers, so the chances of adding/improving things is very tough and we have to hope that we can do well with the information and everything else surrounding a band or some music genres.

But it MIGHT be interesting to actually have a thread/forum for the band alone ... and if it gets out of hand ... close it and put a note on the bio information that the thread/forum was locked because of too many conflicting opinions. At that point a discerning reader would know that too many of the comments were not about the band or music, but personal hoopla! I would hope that something like this would help people say nicer things about the music, as sometimes I wonder if the negative, or I don't care like comments are good for the music. They may be OK for the democracy of it all, but in the end, I'm not sure they are helping the music over all.

It's just a thought! But one that we have to take a stand on if we want to help the music even more as possible.!
