I can tell here that the idea for this poll was not mine, as I was thinking of doing just another personal top list. The voting list itself, though, is actually a list of my favourite Metal albums (except from DT, and presented in chronological order), and at the same time mostly a list of very appreciated/high rated Metal albums from several and very different sub-genres, including Prog Metal.
In my opinion, those albums can be considered as not less than a very little but yet, quite a lot telling document on Metal history.
About LedZepps, however you might want to classify them, I surely consider them to be a part of Metal history, and not to do without, either, so they've just got to be here. Star
I hope you'll enjoy this poll, and I think it will be not so little exiting to see the result of it.

Yes, you can vote for as many albums as you want to
and please tell about your voting.

I'm surely happy for the first vote , S.U.S.A.R.
And I wouldn't mind, if Indukti ended this voting as one of top 5, or even as one of top 3.

A lot of great albums in the poll, I could give my vote to half of them.
I don' know two bands in this list so I skimmed through the albums on youtube to see what their sound is. (Taal and Om). I may give them a proper listen.

Great list! I will give my vote a little bit later. Tongue

Thank you, and I can only recommend you to get aquainted with the French Taal, one of the newer, rather high rated but not so wellknown bands, and on their album here mixing Prog Metal with Avant-Prog - while Om is one of the newer quite wellknown American Stoner Metal bands.
And be sure to see my post in "The Rocking Ladies".

Any 4 of the first five in the list (Budgie being the odd one out).

My favourites from the list are:

Led Zeppelin (UK) - II (1969)
Black Sabbath (UK) - Paranoid (1970)
Taal (F) - Skymind (2002)
Indukti (PL) - S.U.S.A.R. (2004)

I'll give each of those a vote.

Strangely enough, I first began to like Metal being quite an old tad, inspired by a friend, Prog Metal afficionado - even I had my beginnings as a teenager with the early Metal, and continued a little bit with Powerslave.

If you would try to bring your old school British headbanging further, you could try to listen to Melissa - that might be a good idea with your fondness of RIO/Avant/Zeuhl, if it would be all right with some satanic verses, and maybe depending on how much of Iron Maiden you've been listening to.

Never heard of it before, we were pretty parochial back in my teens, it's certainly right in my wheelhouse of old school metal. Better than most I would say. As a militant atheist I have no issue with the lyrics. It's on bandcamp so added to my wishlist. Thanks! Clap

I would say "I'm not hearing it myself". The signature sound of zeuhl for me is heavy jazz fusion with a lot of driving fuzz bass and a lot of minimalist repetition. Opinions vary Smile

I've been thinking of "the manic expression", I seem to hear in both.
And by the way, it might interest you that Melissa is considered to be an important forerunner or maybe even one of Prog Metal pioneers.

Good to hear, you find Melissa lyrics okay, while I can tell that King Diamond is a High Priest in some satanic sect today so, it was pretty serious business for him.

Out of these I will go with Deep Purple in Rock, though I am not sure if I would count it as metal (?). I always liked the inspiration from classical music, f.e. in Jon Lord's organ intro to "Speed King", or some of Blackmore's guitar work. One of the more original hard rock bands for sure.

Alternately: Master of Puppets by Metallica (interesting musical structures).

I can understand that, it's on the borderline in my own point of view, but I find it at least very important for the development of Metal as style, plus it was considered as Metal in the 70's.
