My names Sean and I'm in the UK. I've long listened to a wide variety of musical genres but have only recently started to get heavily and seriously into prog. I'm really digging Caravan, early Genesis and Camel at the moment and have tickets booked to see Steve Hackett in a couple of weeks doing his Seconds Out tour. Just today I went to a great second hand record store near me and picked up on vinyl: Jethro Tull - Aqualung Genesis - Nursery Cryme (2008 remaster) Supertramp - Crime of the Century Camel - Rain Dances Genesis - Wind & Wuthering As I type I'm listening to Rain Dances, the first time I've heard it and it's a revelation! I'm looking forward to talking all things prog with folk here and hopefully picking up on some recommendations for further listening especially prog being made today by new bands. Hi there all

Hidee-Ho Sean, welcome to the Thunderdome. Two men enter...everyone else listens to 21st century Schizoid Man.  Lots of good space and grey matter to discuss your favourites and discover new gems. Hi there JD. Not yet but it's early days. I passed on prog as a kid as punk was happening and I then got into post punk, the indie scene, dance and electronic. Prog was the music of my older siblings so, at the time it got rejected. Now I've a whole genre to dig into. I would've hated Crime of the Century 40 years ago - I'm listening to it now as I type and I think it's genius. I think I don't like Marillion but not knowing anything about them other than Kayleigh I'm going to reserve judgement until i've heard more.

Hi Paul - you probably know it Langley Mill Records?? Always worth a rummage if you're in the vicinity. My mum lives in Belper and I've just spotted a place called Groove Records there down a side alley along the railway track - looks promising. I used to work in Nottingham and would often nip into Robs in Hurts Yard on my break

It's good to know we're both regular visitors to Langley Mill Records and the last time I was in Rob's Records in Nottingham, there was barely room to swing a cat-o'-nine-tails in there. I'll check out Groove Records the next time I'm in Belper.

Try listening to Van der Graaf Generator - Pawn Hearts. You might like it or you might not like it. I'd be curious to know which. Hi, Sean! I'm not a frequent poster at this forum, and only pop in every 3-6 months to chime in here and there... but the site is fantastic for finding interesting new music, that is a fact. For me, the biggest "discovery" from coming to this forum was someone's recommendation to me for Harmonium's Les Cinq Saisons. It's become one of my favorite albums of all time, I adore it. Hi Everybody I first got into prog in 1972 when I heard "In Search of the Lost Chord". Ok perhaps that is Art Rock rather than Prog rock as such,but let's not go there at this time

I'd say Moody Blues are both, honestly. At the very least, they tip-toe the line between the two; in any case, great band!
