Well, one thing I've learned in the past weeks is that my favourite prog albums of the 80s tend to be concentrated in the even-numbered years rather than the odd-numbered ones. Given the circumstances, 1986 is another damned fine year for the genre, methinks. 1. Thinking Plague - Moonsongs 2. Genesis - Invisible Touch (I regret nothing) 3. Univers Zero - Heatwave 4. Camberwell Now - The Ghost Trade (very nice to see this one on another top spot) Talk Talk - The Colour of Spring Univers Zero - Heatwave David Sylvian - Gone to EarthMick Karn - Dreams of Reason Produce Monsters Legendary Pink Dots - Island of Jewels News From Babel - Letters Home Gestalt et Jive - s/t Frank Zappa - Jazz from Hell Pierre Moerlen's Gong - Breakthrough The Astor Piazzolla album is brutally good and can even compete with Camberwell Now and the Talk Talk album (that's three top 20 of all time candidates in this year), as is Jorge Reyes - Comala, but these don't qualify according to my "prog is PA plus Irmin Schmidt plus Mick Karn" rule.

I use this same rule, with the added provision that I'll include artists whose submission to the archives is still under consideration, or artists who I'm planning to nominate for inclusion eventually. the start of the really sucky years for prog lasting until about 92 anyway my not very proggy selection 1. Tangerine Dream - Underwater Sunlight 2. Stephen Caudel - Wine Dark Sea 3. Iron Maiden - Somewhere In Time 4. Vangelis & Irene Papas - Rapsodies 5. Emerson, Lake and Powell - s/t 6. Boston - Third Stage (they spent 6 years making it so must be a prog album lol) 7. Public Image Limited - Album 8. Kate Bush - The Whole Story (it does have a new track Experiment IV which is great) 9. X. last 2 spots ''to be confirmed'' when I can find something
