Forget downloads, FLACs etc.  What was the last physical format bought and when?

CDs - The Faust Tapes, Greaves/Blegvad - Kew. Rhone, Brainville - Free the Brainville Three, Slapp Happy - Casablanca Moon (bought early 2021)

Vinyl - Peter Blegvad - King Strut (acquired 1991 - I have not joined the vinyl revolution)

Cassette - Chemical Brothers - Surrender ( bought 1999)

I can't remember when I last bought vinyl or cassette (haven't joined the vinyl revolution and the only point of a cassette was to play music in a car so they are totally irrelevant now).

Last CD I bought was the Magenta 20th anniversary CD/DVD, a couple of weeks ago.

I still buy CDs online all the time; the last one I bought was Steve Vai's Passion & Warfare because I misplaced my original copy.

I couldn't tell you the last disc I actually purchased in a store, though. Probably a Weather Report disc or something, lol. Maybe Miles Davis at a local shop downtown a few years back.

I've never bought a pre-recorded tape cassette, at least not for myself. I think I bought a Chris De Burgh album for my mum on cassette, Christmas 1986.

The last CD I bought - I think - was Royal Blood's 'How did we get so Dark?'

The last vinyl I bought was Wasp Star: Apple Venus Vol 2 by XTC

It's one of only two prog albums I've ever bought from a charity shop - the other one being "Genesis - Wind & Wuthering". It makes a nice change from the usual cheap selection of throwaway CD's by boy bands and Pop Idol/X-Factor contestants, not to mention the ubiquitous Corrs and Simply Red CD's which no one seems to want.  Smile

It is indeed. I bought my original vinyl copy of Signals from the local chemist, back in about 1986 for £2. I thought I'd done well at the time.

Last CD bought, absolutely don't remember. Probably a used CD for a buck or two, I get CDs in LPs sometimes, but don't buy those on purpose.

Cassettes, I have not bought one in 30 years. I have probably 3-4 carrying/storage cases of cassettes in a closet somewhere. Probably 300 or so tapes......I have been thinking of buying a tape deck.

LPs I buy all the time, recent ones:
Art Blakey~Witch Doctor, FreeForAll and Moanin'
Miles Davis~KoB UHQR
Transatlantic~3
PF~Meddle and Live at Knebworth 1990
Brand X~Unorthodox Behaviour
Kansas~Monolith
Marillion~Clutching At Straws

Bought a used remastered CD of Crime of the Century at a used record/CD/DVD store in West L.A. called Record Surplus. MP3 and vinyl just don't appeal to me for whatever reason.

Just yesterday I ordered CD versions of UK's self-titled debut and Mëkanïk Dëstruktïẁ Kömmandöh on Discogs. Additionally I went to a record store for the first time in over a year last week and bought The Beach Boys's "Pet Sounds" and Radiohead's "Amnesiac" (also on CD).
Also last week I ordered a cassette of Dani Lee Pearce's "For As Briefly As I Live" on Bandcamp, which I think is the first cassette I've ever bought in my life. I don't plan to make a habit of buying them, but this is the only physical release from an artist who's meant a lot to me over the years so I felt compelled to own it.
I do not own any vinyl. Maybe one day I'll concede and start collecting that too but for the moment financial and spatial concerns are holding me back on that front.

Last CD bought was Transatlantic's latest The Absolute Universe: Forevermore, earlier this year.

Last vinyl was ages ago, it was probably Wishbone Ash's Here To Hear around the late 1980s.

I didn't buy many pre recorded cassettes, though I used to buy blank ones and record records borrowed from friends or the library Ermm the last one I bought was probably Queen's A Day At The Races when it was released.

The last cassette was probably in 1994 - can't remember what it was.

The last vinyl record was probably in 1989? - can't remember what is was.

I think I bought around 10 cassettes in my life, probably all of them in the eighties. I still have a tape deck though, and when I went Vortexbox 9 years ago, I digitalised some tapes on which there was stuff that otherwise probably wouldn't have been available anymore (including lots of my own music and music by amateur musician friends).

I haven't bought LPs for ages either but one or two friends sometimes give me LPs. No idea what was the last one I bought (I think an experimental electronic music LP on a concert some five years ago).

I still impulse buy CDs on concerts (of course nothing happened for some time but I saw Kalifa Kone in Bologna outdoors with an audience of 50 or so last September and bought a CD, and very occasionally I buy on CDs stuff that I don't find as files; last seems to be Zoviet France: The Tables are Turning.

Elleven-  Transfiction
Shamall - Questions of Life
Vangelis - Direct
Cromwell - Black Chapter Red
Novox - same
Schnauser - Protein For Everyone
The Amber Light - Goodbye To Dusk, Farewell To Dawn
Bolt - Movement and Detail
Emily Bezar - Exchange
Cosmic Remedy - same
Dixie Dregs - Bring Em Back Alive
Brother Ape - A Rare Moment of Insight
Yacobs - Time Machine

Laser's Edge is great. I know Synphonic sells on Amazon as ProgHeaven but the Synphonic website is dead. It was always an ordeal buying from them because you had to call or email the owner just to see if the item was in stock.

ProgHeaven must be his LLC name or something. I'm not sure but I recently received a package with that name on it. The website is not dead but it may as well be. At this point he should probably just stick with amazon or discogs(not sure if he's on discogs but he might not be). I spoke to Greg recently on the phone a few times and I forgot what he said. His website is not too good though. He does update it but someone messed up the code on the Italian section. I figured out to fix it but it seems he's not too concerned about it. It's a shame too. He runs a good business but his site is just not very functional at all. As for LE they do a good job too and have good sales items. Ken also sells other stuff besides prog which is good. Unfortunately he sent me the wrong Pearl Jam cd(which I happen to already have) but said I could keep it. Now I'm stuck with an extra PJ cd. Lol.

Nice idea for a thread.

The vast majority of my purchases are now digital, I still buy CD's when I can't get them digitally.

CD's bought in the last 6 months

John Zorn - Bagatelles 4CD boxset
Philip Glass - 50 Years
Third Ear Band - Alchemy / Elements
Henry Cow - Collected Fragments Ex Box
Anthony Davis - Episteme

Generally I'm buying from Wayside, Discogs, ReR and Amazon (as a last resort)

I haven't bought any vinyl in 20 years, no idea what it was, probably Leonard Cohen, Susan Vega or Tracey Chapman.

Cassettes are even longer, I probably haven't bought one of those in 35 years, absolutely no idea what.

Edit - I just remembered I bought an LP version of Gowen, Miller, Sinclair, Tomkins - Before A Word Is Said in 2017 by accident on discogs, I was trying to buy a CD. I sent it to a friend as a gift as I don't have a turntable.

I still buy CDs all the time. I still keep a handwritten wants list of albums to check out/buy on CD.
My last CD purchase was that I was fortunate to win Cassandra by 25 Yard Screamer on an ebay auction today.  That's a long deleted CD that I've been after for years

My hi-fi should be coming out of storage in less than 2 weeks. I'm going to order something on vinyl which most likely will be BBT - Ingenious Devices
Struggle to remember the last physical thing I purchased as I've not purchased anything this year due to my interim living arrangements (about to end) and also my determination to rely more on streaming to cut costs (I will allow myself the occasional vinyl though). Could have been that lovely VDGG CD boxset The Charisma Years possibly. I tried to resist its alluring charms but ultimately couldn't do it!

I can revise this post from two years ago.

Last CDs were bought yesterday from Bandcamp:
Isobar - Isobar III
Klidas - No Harmony

Last vinyl was bought in December 2021:
Best of the Mummers, 13th Annual Musical Salute (1974) - bought at an antique mall for $2
I bought this for sentimental reasons. When I was a kid I used to watch the Mummers Parade on television that was held in downtown Philadelphia every New Years Day back in the late 1970s.
I inherited some Sesame Street records this year, but these weren't technically purchases.

Last cassette was bought in 1993:
Alan Parsons - Try Anything Once (I found the few remaining cassettes I had in storage and this was the least oldest in the box)
