Damn, for some reason I'm having a really, really challenging time even finding an album that qualifies as obscure from that year!

The closest thing I have is Beefheart Mirror Man, lol.

I'll be back!

Same. I feel like anything I have been able to find on CD from that era isn't particularly obscure. Somebody thought they were relevant enough for a modern format release. And I'm not a vinyl collector. I suppose the closest to fit the criteria are:

Buon Vecchio Charlie - s/t
Moving Gelatine Plates - s/t
Solution - s/t

I was thinking of adding that one.

Jan Dukes de Grey is one I have that was already mentioned. The only other album I have from this year that might qualify is Beggars Opera - Waters of Change.

Is Egg's The Polite Force obscure? I doubt it is, but not sure.

Another one I was thinking of, it's got over 400 ratings on here so I skipped it. To normal general population very obscure, to us here, founding pillar of a genre LOL

I'm not sure if I have a top 3 but Centipede's Septober Energy is probably the most overlooked item from this year that I could name.

Obscure is a relative term...many odd ones are well known by us on this forum but my friends have never heard of them.
3 I really like...
-Moonkyte- Count Me Out
-Tonton Macoute-st
-Samurai-st

(also some were mentioned above like Spring, Cressida, Still Life,  and Raw Material, Marsupilami...don't add these in since they are extras...)

^Thanks, Spaciousmind! Your latest (and exhaustive) suggestions have been added to the big list!

Well...my comment is that many on the lists posted  simply aren't obscure or at least not 'most obscure' which was the OP comment. For example how is Wishbone Ash , Savoy Brown, Donovan, Beefheart, Groundhogs , BBKing, Denny, John Prine, Mitch Ryder, Melanie, and many more...  ...most obscure...?
Confused

Wu, I noted these albums as obscure strictly for this website. I guarantee relatively few folks have heard Mitch Ryder or John Prine here....or Melanie for that matter. But they will have heard Jan Dukes De Grey, even though their original albums are out of print. LOL

It's all relative..... two of my close relatives have never heard of King Crimson (shock, horror!), so from their perspective, Robert Fripp & co. are obscure. Tongue

Lol...and true... I added Free to 1970 because I bet you a lot of the younger listeners in this forum have never heard of them since they are obviously not listed here Tongue or Rory Gallagher with Taste :)

Most of these are obscure, except to old folks like me and Dr.Wu. A strange aside, Fripp remastered all of Melonie's albums for CD. Does that make her an honorary prog artist?
