90125.

I didn't realize that 1983 was carrier of so many good albums. I'm "One Of The Few" who loves The Final Cut, and Crisis is one of my favorite Oldfield albums. There's Hyperborea, Cardiacs...I thought it was worse.

A Yes vote for 90125 as it's  the first Yes studio album I bought on vinyl in 1983, mainly on the strength of the single and I really was an Owner of a Lonely Heart at the time. Cry

One of the few polls I won’t vote for Bowie. I do like this album, but it’s far from being one of his greatest (even if it’s easily one of his most commercially successful).

I went for Cardiacs. 🤗🥰

They already won four other 80s polls, so I thought I'd not include them on this one, since 'Script' is a pretty obvious album.

I figured this was exactly why you didn’t include them, and agree wholeheartedly. Including them would have rendered the poll almost a waste of time! 😄

I, like Nick, also go with Cardiacs over the Bowie (and over Tangerine Dream). I really like the B side of Let's Dance, but I wouldn't consider it to be one of the great Bowie albums (from an artistic, non-commercial standpoint) and I would be reluctant to include it in a Prog section poll even though it has some progginess about it.

I understand why Marillion wasn't included, and think the reasoning sound, and would like to think that that is also the reason why Art Zoyd's Les espaces inquiets was not included, but then I am quite confident that I'd be deluding myself.

Maybe he calls these polls "random" for a reason? Tongue

Even many people who like Art Zoyd generally and might consider themselves to be fans will not have heard that album. It's the lowest and least rated of all Art Zoyd 70s and 80s albums, but is a personal favourite of mine. I love the track "Migrations". Four of my traditional favourite albums from 1983 that are included in Prog categories have been Art Zoyd's Les espaces inquiets, Codona's Codona 3, News From Babel's Sirens and Silences / Work Resumed on the Tower and Eskaton's Fiction. My tastes do tend to run towards the unusual.

If I set my old iPod to random song shuffle, there's a good chance that I will hit an Art Zoyd -- that, Ennio Morricone, Magma and things Robert Wyatt feature heavily on it. On my new phone it's mostly Cardiacs (good driving music I find), so I could hardly complain or feel left out when it comes to this poll.

One of the beauties about such themed polls (in this case a year poll) is that most everyone's list will be quite different, unless of course it's based on a shared list and the like. I appreciate seeing different things in different people's lists.

I am not at all shocker at this point seeing IQ taking the lead... once again, and marching forward towards a sixth win (which would make them the band with the most wins in the series Shocked)!

This was my take too: when I first heard the album I thought that the first four were way above. But over time, Heads or Tales actually grew into one of my favourite Saga albums too. Such a shame though that the mix is so terribly bad (if someone knows a good mix of this one, please let me know - both my LP and CD suffer from too much highs...).

Some might suggest you aided and abetted this by not including Marillion (who I’m guessing might have been their main competition). And given how you loaded the “random” Coltrane poll, I wouldn’t put it past you! 😜

It’s been a great series of polls, though, and I looked forward to the second series, which I imagine is coming very soon!

I must admit that there is a bit of a truth in what you said, Nick. Big smile

As for the second stage of RAC, it is indeed coming very soon - this Saturday. And since you asked, I guess I can reveal what it will look like.

There will be six polls for each decade that has been involved (60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, 2000s, 2010s + 2020) and we will have the winner of each year in the respective polls. Again, a week's time should be enough to have some interesting and satisfactory outcomes.
[I guess I will do two decades/polls a week]

And after three more weeks, obviously the third and final stage of RAC will come - the six albums left will compete for the title! Tongue

If it were not for Cardiacs being present in the poll, I may well have voted for Pink Floyd. I suspect it would have been between Final Cut and Bowie’s Let Dance. 🤔🤷🏻‍♂️

And by the way, may I raise your attention to the amount of votes on this poll (all of them are unique and counting at 65 as of now) as compared to what the heavy prog polls are getting these days (around 20 more or less). Unhappy
