Mine are:
Heyoka's Mirror - The Uninvited King. Really cool music. I just loved how they incorporated SoaD influences in prog metal.
Labyrinth - Welcome to the Absurd Circus. I already like this band, and this is a solid offering of them.
Odd Dimension - The Blue Dawn. This sounds like they improved a lot. Very cool.
Wheel - Resident Human. Not really my style, but still impressive. Excellent musicianship. Groovy and well done.
How is your take on this year's hitherto prog metal releases?

Evergrey - Escape Of The Phoenix
Wheel - Resident Human
Need - Norchestrion - A Song for the End

Here’s a dozen 2021 releases that have been described as prog metal (though not necessarily by this site), that have tickled my fancy.

^ Atravan - The Grey Line (2021) - I've heard this one, good one, barely metal, but a solid album.

Souls of Diotima! I need to check out their last album.
Nick, I haven't heard about half of the bands you mentioned, let alone the albums.

I edited my post to add Bandcamp links for the pages I know exist.

Thanks for posting, I'll need to check these out. I have not bought much prog metal, I did just get Liquid Tension Experiment 3....Excellent return by LTE!

Only two, but two quite good ones:
Wheel - Resident Human
Konom - Konom

I wasn’t a great fan of Konom.
Haven’t listened to the new Wheel yet, but I loved their last album, so hopefully the new one is just as enjoyable,

Me neither, but something about it made me try it out a few times with background listening after my initial headphone listen. Then the vocals really started to grab my attention more and more which made me forget about some aspects of the poppier metal portions that I'm not interested in.
This guy, Arya Bobaie, can really sing! Great range. He reminds me of so many great singers at different points and has some vocal theatrics at times reminiscent of Matthew Parmeter (Discipline).
Allowing the vocals to keep me interested, I got a few reps of the music and grew to appreciate it quite a bit. The music gets more proggy as it goes.
At many points I think to myself that this is how Dream Theatre could sound with my kind of vocalist. When not in DM mode, it's still quite good too. I have thoughts of Porcupine Tree at times too, and Discipline at times. They certainly combine it all to make a good sound of their own.
This one is a grower I guess, although maybe not aggressive enough for some.

The new LTE is great. Will give my 3 cents about it once I have listened to it in a week or two.

Wow this "snippet" is awesome. I'm guessing that this album might be my favourite PM album of the year.

Dream Theater have released their new single. Yawn. Not interested. Since 1999.
Artem Illusio's video is awesome! Very glad to discover them!

I disagree on DT, the new song is not bad at all, predictable, but not bad at all.
Thank you for mentioning Artem Illusio, I will listen to that album.

^ I said that "I'm not interested." Dream Theater members are musical masters, but they lost their innovative spirit IMO. Listening to their stuff in the new millennium is not exciting for me. I figure unless Kevin Moore returns to the band, it'll always be so. Not that I dislike Rudess, as SFaM was excellent. It is like the post-Khan era of Kamelot. Karevik is an incredible singer and Silverthorn was an amazing album. Yet, after that, they did bland stuff. Not all "directions" are cool with everybody. I wish them the best in their new path, though.

I agree on Kamelot
My favorite DT is the one with Kevin Moore, but he will never rejoin DT, I wish he would rejoin Jim Matheos and do some music with him, that might happen though, OSI is a great band with a cult following (if I may say so).
The post 2000 DT albums I enjoy quite a bit are Train of Thought, Octavarium, the self titled and Distance Over Time.

Those of you who don't mind your progressive death metal quite brutal, with no clean vocals (but great growls), should check out ATVM. Inventive, fun and very intense. I feel their compositions are stronger than most prog metal I've heard - not just a bunch of unrelated ideas thrown together. This is their album debut album (press: http://https://atvm.bandcamp.com/album/famine-putrid-and-f**king-endless" rel="nofollow - start at the beginning , if the page doesn't appear on your screen):
From the comment section on bandcamp:
Camel: Groovy, jazzy, progressive, thrashy, technical death metal unlike anything else I've heard. Atvm really stands on their own with a sound that is unique their's. Picture of Decay is one of the best extreme metal songs I've heard. Please keep making music. We need more Atvm.
Ippocalyptica: Calling this “progressive death metal” is like calling water “wet” in that both are accurate but hardly helpful in understanding what is at play. Atvm have created something very special here, a masterful, thrash-infused death metal extravaganza that is full of challenging yet accessible riffs that dazzle from start to finish. Atvm remind me of Anicon and Vektor in how these bands, in their respective sub-genres, push technical limits while remaining creative and engaging. Good stuff!

All great acts and recordings. I found this year to be rather stale, despite entries like the above. Perhaps the last year and a half did a number on ye olde cynicism LOL .

Course of Fate - Mindweaver seems great. It was released last year, but I've recently discovered it.
I simply love Norwegian metal (not Leprous, haha).
Djent seems to have furthered its infestation. So sad...

The more complex DT get, the blander they become. This is NOT songwriting, but combining some flashy parts without genuine intuition. I guess I'll not listen to their new album.

I listened to the new album twice and Awaken the Master is my favorite so far.
