Anyone into horror should check out Rec. It was very successful and spawned 3 sequels. Rec3 is also an excellent horror parody but the original is the real deal. BTW was remade as Quarantine. Also another creepy horror film remade was the Vanishing . The original Dutch version is was better. On a similar theme I would mention the original Norwegian version of Insomnia starring the great actor Stellen Skarsgaard (Chernobyl) . Well worth checking out. I also enjoyed Trollhunter a lot , exactly what a 'B Movie' horror pic should be!

| ^ Loved [Rec], the ending was incredible. However, the sequels went in the wrong/uninteresting direction IMO. As far as I remember, the first sequel was very bizarre, but the mindless zombie/undead thing is boring for me. A satanic cult pursuit would be infinitely more intriguing. |

Hi, I wish I could list them all, but it would include at least 25 to 30 countries ... and I will look at my reviews and go from there. From my top list of films, though I can remember a few right off the bat. The Double Life of Veronique -- awesome music and the writing of the film is fantastic and it does not deteriorate into a stupid horror flick! The Fencing Master -- incredible fencing film that even "discusses" small details between the French, Italian and Spanish styles ... and its story is amazing, the costumes and settings are out of this world, and Assumpta Serna is riveting! Jean de Florette/Manon des Sources -- unbelievable story that you don't really understand until the last 10 minutes of the 2nd film ... unbelievable performances, and so well done and photographed. A labor of love that is difficult not to appreciate, but I'm not sure that many folks can watch this for 4 hours! And not be totally wowed! La Belle Noiseusse - Jacques Rivette in his best film, although the one that is least appreciated. It is "slow" in that it is 4 hours long, but just the seeing of a hand put a master painting together that is bigger than you or I, is insane ... and in the end, the only thing it can tell us is ... "painting is not a photograph" ... and my friends, that is what art is all about! A true masterpiece. After The Fox - Part Italian and part English, but Peter Sellers here is out of this world and crazy! Unbelievable performance! The City of Lost Children - My favorite take of a lot of the PA stuff ... the dreams are being taken away from the new musicians and artists ... and we need to make sure they can get it all back! Aguirre The Wrath of God - Probably one of the best of all films that do improvisation so clean that you can't tell that any of it was ever written down. Maybe later it was ... but what a show! The Island on Bird Street - Was peddled badly as a film for children in Film Festivals and got itself buried ... but it is a wonderful story of survival ... and that mouse is awesome! Ran - Every shot is a painting, and filmed perfectly. Akira Kurosawa at his most beautiful and best. Journey of Hope - A film about the plight of the Kurds trying to get into Europe ... complete with music by various ECM folks, and it is used to stunning effects! Carmen - Carlos Saura magnificent dance film as a new version of Carmen ... consider it the new wave against the last wave of dancers, something like that! A Woman's Tale - Films don't come any better than this ... a totally incredible thing from beginning to the end! Henry and June - A little about the life and times of Henry Miller ... a loving film that shows something about the work of Henry Miller. Steppenwolf - A very nice film that used cartoons for some of the philosophical rants, but it stays pretty much on par with the novel, although both you and I think that we know it by how we see it, not how anyone, or a film, can possible describe it, which is excellent. And finally .... VISIONS OF LIGHT -- I talk about this all the time. It is a film about various cinematographers and what made them great, and how in some cases THEY MADE THE DIRECTOR ... it's hard to watch Bergman without Nykvist, or Bertolucci without Vitorio Storaro, and many others and their contributions to a lot of films ... and then you find out ... how clever some directors are ... and you will laugh hard because you did it too! ------------- Music is not just for listening ... it is for LIVING ... you got to feel it to know what's it about!
