Following the uDiscover top 25, I was amazed to see some unfamiliar names up there with Portnoy, Peart etc. Who is your favourite drummer from this RIO-heavy list?

Pip by far. One of the best.

Moerlen or Pip, doesn't matter. Went with the former.

Chris Cutler for sure. Pierre Moerlen is also a fantastic drummer.

Definitely Chris Cutler from this list. Lots of great drummers, but Cutler is a cut above the rest, in my opinion.

By the way, in reference to another post on the forum (Dylan and Shadows), Chris Cutler started off in a Shadow’s cover band, or so I was told.....

Moerlen was a phantastic and very special drummer. Died far too young.

Vander and Moerlen are tied for second place, for me. If Cutler were not in this poll, I honestly don’t know that I could make a decision on who to vote for without flipping a coin. 😄

Went with Daniel Denis. He isn't necesarrily better, technicaly speaking, than the rest of all those great drummers, but I like his style - very prominent and evocative. He is a great part of Univers Zero unique atmosphere. He provides not only rhythmic base for UZ extremaly complex tracks, he also illustrates them in a way.

Cutler just over Vander, but all of them are truly spectacular.

Not sure if Vander is the absolute best, but he's the most interesting drummer to watch that I've ever seen!

Vander, but these are all great original drummers. I would add Jaki Liebezeit to this list.

Oh I voted too fast. I saw Christian Vander and immediately cast my vote. Then I saw Tatsuya Yoshida. He’d get my vote if I could have a redo. One of my biggest influences as a drummer. I saw him live at The Stone in... maybe 2006?

I'll vote for him on your behalf, brilliant drummer, seen him a few times in various bands, Ruins, Koenjihyakkei, Korekyojinn and sitting in on other bands. I'm torn between Tatsuya, Denis, Cutler, Vander, Kerman but can't bear to see him with no votes.

interesting... two of the best on there..
Vander who just might be my favorite traditional bottom up drummer (by a hair over Carl Palmer) and Cutler.. but as he is only my 2nd favorite top down drummer (but way behind the master himself.. Keith Moon)
giving the vote to Vander

Impossible to vote. They're all outstanding drummers with some of my favourite bands, so it's like being asked to pick out one of your children. I've been lucky to see four of them live (Cutler, Vander, Kerman and Denis), and remember being absolutely mesmerized by Daniel Denis when Univers Zero performed in DC in 2010.

Moerlen, Pyle and Vander are in my top 5 prog drummers.
Yoshida, Cutler and Denis are fantastic too.
Not familiar with Kerman yet.
Voted Pyle.
