One of the things I love about Chick's pieces is their versatility, and how they can be adapted for different arrangements and instrumentations. And those arrangements can then change based simply on what the performers want to do on that specific performance.

No where is that more apparent than with his collaborations with Gary Burton. Tracks like Love Castle (originally on My Spanish Heart), Crystal Silence, La Fiesta (both on Return to Forever), or Señor Mouse all shine in new ways, even though it's still just the two of them. Or, in the case of the first disc of New Crystal Silence, an ORCHESTRA! The Lyric Suite is another unique one in that they are backed by a group of strings. Just a gorgeous album. Or how about Hot House? An album full of Jazz standards, but one where the modern, progressive tendencies always seem to rear their head in almost every track.

I can only imagine how much Gary mourns for Chick, as they clearly had quite a special relationship. The music certainly shows that.

It's difficult to decide. But I think I'll have to go with New Crystal Silence. The orchestral versions of Duende, Love Castle, and La Fiesta just blew me away. Further cementing my choice are the awesome duet renditions of Bud Powell and No Mystery, as well as a version of Señor Mouse where Gary is the one driving the bassline. However, it has tough competition from Duet, which features tracks like the monster Duet Suite, and the breath-taking Song to Gayle (for Chick's wife). Great stuff fusion fans should enjoy. Truly timeless compositions, and I hope you check them out if you're unfamiliar.

I expect the first three are the ones that most people here have heard.

I love them all, but Hot House gets my vote.

Crystal Silence, by far.

It's one of my Top 5 favorite jazz albums ever!

Crystal Silence - my favorite of the Gary Burton duet albums, though the Zurich show was a recent revelation.....I never even knew it existed 'til I saw a near mint vinyl copy at my local Half Price Books for $8.00.  Any of those duet albums are excellent but the first one digs deeper than the rest.

Back in the day when I first explored CC, I was not a huge fan of these types of duet albums, so I've only heard the first, which I had trouble focusing on. These days, my tolerance for such things has improved, although I still wouldn't say its a favorite but I haven't listened to any of these mentioned so ill be sitting this one out.

I'll explore one or two as I continue listening through CCs work in the weeks ahead.

Certainly an acquired taste. I definitely recommend checking out Lyric Suite or New Crystal Silence if you're having trouble staying focused with the duet stuff. I found the orchestral interpretations on the latter to be stunning. And be sure to check out the previous and upcoming polls of his stuff that I've made/will make in his honor. I'm also taking a deep dive into his works. Though I think I'm going to scale back some of the poll ideas I had since they probably won't get much engagement.

In any case, I'm currently listening to Solo Piano: Portraits, a live cut of his released 2014.

I also am not bowled over by the duo work of Corea/Burton. I tried listening to some of your links but so far - not for me. I shall keep trying.

Anyway, Like Minds with Burton, Corea, Metheny, Hayes, and Holland is one of my favorite's. Also love Elektric Band, Acoustic Band, and Trilogy. Don't leave those out of your future polls.

^ I certainly will not. I'm getting there, don't you worry. And yeah, I'm going to check out Like Minds soon (though I'm unsure how I can fit it into a poll).

New Crystal Silence definitely has piqued my interest. Thumbs Up

I'm working through the previous poll now, but ill definitly get to a couple of these in time.

Lyric Suite for Sextet

All the list is awesomely worth the vote, but it’s not an option here. First vote for Lyric Suite for Sextet
