Heard this late last night on the radio: the famous script writer/writer Jean-Claude Carrière died yesterday. Especially known for his work with Luis Buñuel, but with many other famous film directors too. I had the pleasure to meet him, as guest of our festival, and bringing him back to his home village in the South of France. We had interesting discussions in the car that continued during the dinner he invited me to with his wife Nahal Tajadod and the actress Golshifteh Farahani (who's a friend of the family). A great man, modest regarding his own accomplishments, with a great sense of humour, great in his humanity and one of the Great Masters of script writing.

Hi,

I can't think of a single thing he was a part of that did not help it become a really nice piece. I thought that some directors just let him "have it" his way, and only add camera angles to augment the words, but in general, I am not sure I can find a bad script by Jean Claude Carriere.

There is only one other person, I think, in this website that might say something here ... as he is very knowledgeable about films in general.

Sad to see, and hopefully he will be remembered for his great work.

It's very sad. He was a writer on so, so many great films. It's an incredible CV. Just to have Belle de Jour in your resume, but Hotel Paradiso, The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie, a writer on the film adaptation of The Tin Drum, The Unbearable Lightness of Being, Chinese Box (okay, not so known, but I saw that when it came out in the cinema with my wife -- can hardly believe that was 24 years ago) and so on.
