Hello to all fellow forum members who are reading this. I'd like to ask your opinions about how our society is shaped today (talking more specifically about younger people). Recently this guy called Régis Tadeu, who has a channel in YouTube dedicated to reviews and that kind of stuff about rock music in general, released a video called "Subcelebridades mentem como canalhas", which in English would mean something like "Subcelebrities lie like scoundrels". He basically rants about how people today use unethical methods to promote their work, like, let's say, a song (that some wouldn't even consider as music) through social networks (and especially how effective this is to bring them "followers"). According to him, some of these methods include fake death threaths, fake kidnappings, drama, etc. He claims that the people who follow these subcelebrities (particularly, the so called digital influencers) are generally of the lowest level, who haven't read a single book in an entire year and instead, spend all their time behind their phone screen instead of doing something really useful.

Long story short; a rant about how people (specifically the youth) are getting idiot and retarded on the web nowdays.

As a teen myself, I hate social networks. I feel out of place regularly living in such times of a super connected world. Sometimes I just feel like hiding in my shell.

Yuri. There really isn’t anything new about the manipulation and prodding of the masses to conform to societal norms, or the norms which those who have power and wealth deem to be that which promotes their interests.

The super connected world you refer to is merely the modern iteration of this human behaviour. It is as old as “civilised” humanity itself.

There is the stark depressing bit. Now for the uplifting bit. Throughout that human history, there have been fantastic moral human beings who recognise this for what it is, and strive to improve the lot of their fellow man.

Hiding in one’s shell is a perfectly natural reaction to concerns about widespread imbecility. It is also the wrong reaction. Come out, talk, and use the connected world for what it can be good at. Which is sharing concerns, discussing solutions, and, most of all, and you do see this daily on this site, realising that there is more good than bad in this crazy thing called mankind.

You will never, ever, eliminate stupidity. But hopefully, we will mature, and restrict its impact as far as we can.

Chin up, dear chap. You are amongst friends here.

Platonic thought is deteriorating as years go by. It's easy to get mixed up in bullsh*t because schools have refused to teach them good analytical thinking skills. How and in what way are you suppose to apply facts & knowledge?

I've never used Facebook or Twitter. I much prefer the social networking right here at ProgArchives. Thumbs Up
