A Shame. RIP.
Probably the only artist to do a stint in Crimson who regretted it to his dying days.

I got to know him a bit personally and always felt he was a tortured soul. I hope he rests peacefully.

So,,,,RIP..but why did he regret his 'stint in KC'...?

The real reason is that Gordon had no creative input. He considered himself to be a good songwriter for prog as his solo album It Is And It Isn't proves. He also had royalty disputes with Fripp later on.

I must be getting senile....I had 'forgoitten' he was the singer and bass in Fleurs De Lys...I have those singles in a collection on cd.

Yeah, I don't think he's listed here. I guess making one prog album with John Wetton on bass wasn't enough to get him included.

RIP Gordon
Loved his singing on "Cadence and Cascade", even more so on "Cirkus". I knew about his solo album but didn't know about the folkish Moodys vibe, will definitely seek it out. Thank you Steve and Doc

So sad.
His voices are not my cup of tea but obviously he built KC foundation up in early 70s.

RIP! Saw the news on Facebook of all places (Prog United group I think) yesterday evening. I love Lizard, and from what I understand he was never happy with his work nor time in KC. Thank you for your art and rest in peace!

Stackridge's 'No-One's More Important Than The Earthworm' was derived from a song written by Gordon Haskell and it's a favorite.

One of the top Stackridge tracks overall and the only vocal track on that nearly-all instrumental filpside of Extravaganza.

you're right, well actually he had one big hit, a #2 album ("Harry's Bar") and single ("How Wonderful you are") in 2002
I can't think of a guy less likely to have a big hit but there you go

Often referred to as jazz folk, Harry's Bar was a great album. One of those rare unique recordings that an artist can never reproduce once they release it. Gordon tried with two more albums but it just didn't have the magic of Harry's Bar.

Thanks for sharing that very nice dgm post !
* RIP *
I first remember the man who laughed at the line ending Indoor Games with "hey ho". He's a better known musician than I'd expected. It's been very long since I've listened to music like what's on his solo albums (I'm discovering them !), to the extent it brings a kind of enjoyment of "exotic" order

yeah 4 vocalists in the 1970s and they are all deceased now. Boz was the first to pass (2006), then Lake (2016) then Wetton (2017) now Haskell (2020)

I'm terribly sorry for Gordon Haskell's passing.
He was such an interesting persona. First with his 70s King Crimson stint and folkish tunes, and then "coming back" in 2000s with a big hit and mature, reflective albums - he's had quite noticeable following here in Poland. Still remember how his concert in Warsaw circa 2003 was loudly touted in national TV, and soon after that collaboration with Polish singer Katarzyna Skrzynecka got even more attention. So intriguing!
Gordon also played live in my hometown (yay!) promoting "One Day Soon", my parents attended and loved every minute of it. My father said that live arrangements were much, much more vivid and engaging than the LP itself; I wonder if someone recorded or witnessed it? Anyways, paps loved the concert and was positively surprised.
When it comes to LIZARD, this one is my favorite, most cherished KC album - if I had to pick one - and Gordon's vocals are huge part of that... even if he disliked his stay in the band. What if that lineup went on tour and "opened up" with more democratic approach to songwriting? Would love to know.

Yes, Gordon was a bit of a star in Poland and his later albums sold the best there. He also had a great appreciation for the people, not only for being great fans, but he found the Poles to be incredibly nice, warm hearted people and their young musicians to be totally enthusiastic about playing with him and appreciating his music. It was one of the bright spots in his long up and down music career.
The only way to see what KC would have sounded like if Gordon was allowed to contribute songwriting is to listen to the songs on his album "It Is And It Isn't" and try to imagine Fripp and co. doing that music.

Man, I just saw this. A darn shame. I know he wasn't happy with the results of the time he spent in KC, but honestly I think he sang every song on Lizard perfectly, and Cadence And Cascade as well. I should check out his solo stuff that was mentioned, can't believe it's not listed on PA.
------------- Porg for short. My love of music doesn't end with prog! Feel free to discuss all sorts of music with me. Odds are I'll give it a chance if I haven't already! :)

In the 70's. Adrian Belew and some of the others are still alive though. I haven't kept track of KC in a while so not sure who after Adrian sang with them.

Adrian was a long time member from the Discipline album in the 80s to the last KC studio album The Power To Believe. "Jakko" Jakszyk has replaced him for the reformation concerts of the last few years.
KC almost had as many vocalists as Spinal Tap had drummers.

Could be seen as a macabre pun, but since he's dead, Gordon has caused me to have an ear(th)worm since he died, but unlike unsual, my earworms are usually about songs I loathe.
