I was just fast asleep, and dreamt that I was with a large group of guitar collectors (I am one myself).  I was asked to play a song, so I borrowed someone's electric and amp, found a microphone and this is what I played.
It was a lovely little dream and I wanted to share!

Strangely enough, last night I dreamt I was playing the bass for Pendragon (not sure where Peter Gee was) and I didn't know any of the songs. Fortunately my mate was playing guitar (again not sure why) and I got him to mouth the chords to me and it seemed to go ok.

I don't recall ever having significant dreams about music, band members I've worked with, etc. But I always thought it would be cool to conjure up a Roger Dean landscape while slumbering and go exploring.

Well, angling after Schindleria Praematurus while bobbing on a topographic ocean cannot be a bad dream (not even for a landlubber like me) Approve. While awaken, I have seen trees (in Rome) which could have been a source of inspiration for Roger Dean's cover art.

Sadly, music doesn't seem to be a notable part of my dreams (or what I can remember of them), but three years ago when I was waiting for my trip to England to see a Steve Hackett show, I just knew that the man I saw briefly in my dream was Hackett even though I only saw him from behind, on a rural Finnish landscape. I woke up at that moment, so I didn't have a chance to have a chat with mr. Hackett.

While sleeping I have played on stage with Pink Floyd, Bob Dylan, Patti Smith and others, but just last night I was showing the chords of a song just composed to Andy Latimer. It was something jazzy in C but I don't remember anything else.

...and thinking better, listening to Senmuth gives me a sensation of deja vu, like I've listened to his albums in dreams. Bark Of Ra in particular.

I once had a dream where I was listening to a jazz rock/fusion song. It was an original part that my mind composed/improvised I guess. Nothing groundbreaking, but it could easily have been off of a 3-3.5 starred album here.

LOL, reminds me of my university days (1973-77)!  We had pills (LSD) to do that type of thing!!  I only tried them a couple of times, but I know others who used them frequently.

I once had a dream where I walked into a restaurant that was owned by Peter Hammill.
He got upset about something and I thought he wanted me to leave, so I did.
I was super starstruck and embarrassed that I did something to annoy him, even though I had no idea what that was.

I've also dreamed that Phil Collins was sitting across my kitchen table, chatting to me. I made some dumb remark about how I didn't like his music after 1980 and he got quiet and then left.

Naturally, in my own dreams, I'm always the nuisance LOL

Yes. Several. I've had dreams where I met musicians, been to concerts(especially Yes concerts), festivals, etc. I had one dream where I went to see Yes and was hanging out with Jon Anderson and he and I were friends and chatting like we knew each other really well. I actually did meet him once before that. In fact the one time I met him I told him about a dream I had where he and I were both on stage with Yes playing keyboards but we were playing the same keyboard. In the dream he tells me to move over. I told him this and we both recreated it by playing air keyboards with him telling me "yeah, move over." LOL

Just remembered - I once had a dream when I was chatting with, of all non-proggy people, Johnny Rotten. I was not myself. We were actually talking about how bad and over pretentious prog is - especially when I said Genesis was the worst of all. Then he crossed out Pink Floyd on his "I hate Pink Floyd" shirt and swapped it for Genesis.
But then, less of a prog dream, and more reminiscent of a Father Anti-Christmas dream.

I had a dream about Rush playing some high school gymnasium... I'm talking modern Rush that could fill an arena, not the old early 70s Rush that would've played that kind of venue. For some reason, Neil Peart got up and started playing flute. Must have gotten him confused with Ian Anderson...

Not a prog dream, but a musical dream nonetheless: earlier this year, I dreamt I was at a Deep Purple Mark II concert.

Also, this I had a dream/nightmare where I was supposed to play keyboards on stage with a couple of friends, but I didn't know the setlist Stern Smile. This is a variation on my usual nightmare of having to take a final exam for a college course I didn't attend.

I have had a nightmare where I was asked to play keyboards on stage with IQ as a last minute replacement...

And also I once dreamt that I was playing rugby union for Ireland in the Six Nations championship, and scored a try - and with me in the back row was Mike Holmes of IQ! We are 2 very unlikely rugby players...and why Ireland? I'm English, have lived in Scotland and now Wales, and have visited France and Italy, but never set foot in Ireland 😂

It is natural. I remember when I first saw a bottle of Jagermeister I thought my life would be not enough to enjoy the taste of all the existing bitters. Nowadays, don't get me wrong, I'm not an alcoholic - but I drank enough bitters including Jagermeister to simply hate them and their usual taste. I prefer Triple Sec these days. Perhaps, this love will perish one day, as well.

The number of possible topics for such a forum is certainly limited.

I've long had prog dreams involving many scenarios.

I'm a correspondent with Mr. Robert Fripp & his sister Patricia, which has led to a number of rather wild dreams, often involving playing onstage with Bob.  (I'm the former bassist to one of his first Guitar Craft students, Alonzo Jones, in his amazing band "CAVU").

I also know John Goodsall of Brand X, even bought him a laptop once when his computer fried out.  Another friend is Ray Bennett and Colin Carter of the band "Flash."

The first prog-related dream I can remember was when I was a lad in high school, perhaps 1971.  I dreamt about Jimmy Page playing onstage with a natural finished Telecaster.  As he was most often shown with a sunburst Les Paul, I thought it was an odd dream....eventually, I learned that the early Led Zep material in fact was recorded with a Telecaster.

Not a dream, but read somewhere that Gabriel supposedly hallucinated the part in Supper's Ready about "Six saintly shrouded men move across the lawn slowly. The seventh walks in front with a cross held high in hand." I've had dreams of a similar nature where mysterious figures lurk somewhere out on the periphery.

From a dream journal:

Funny dream about David Cousins...He was encamped on a lawn that was raised up from street level, about waist-height, with a retaining wall below it.  He was homeless (gee, where did homeless come from?) and was busking to raise money to get back home.  He was wearing weathered boots and had scrapbooks/photo albums strewn all around him.  Rick Wakeman was there as well and he and I were looking through the albums...they had that old library musty scent to them.

Thanks for sharing!  For some odd reason, I've been humming the Strawbs song "Round and Round" all morning!  I didn't dream about Cousins, but why I suddenly fixated on this song escapes me!

Prog-related dream - last night, I dreamt I was selected to go on a rocket trip to the Moon, on an Elon Musk rocket.  My only dilemma was trying to figure out which guitar I wanted to take!!  The Les Paul was too heavy, I settled on my Guild S-100.

Nice collection!  That would be a hard decision, but the Les Paul would weigh less on the moon, lol!  But so would you, so perhaps it would still feel equivalent (I'll leave that to scientists amongst us to let us know....you might know, judging from your post elsewhere).  It does seem like we are lately, especially, just going round in circles.  The thing most about my dream was the scent factor, some people never dream with scent, but I've had several that were particularly memorable.  And being excited to just catch DC busking, it was a good listen.  :)

Last night, I dreamt that I was talking to the remains of Yes and imploring Howe to re-record "The Ancient" from TFTO in order to include percussion parts played by a huge collection of Yes fans.

Needless to say, Howe was dubious.

I actually participated in this type of performance once, when the Tulsa Artist Coalition gave their annual New Music concert....they passed out sets of wooden laundry clips to the audience, and we clicked them together to emulate the sound of crickets.  It was good fun!

Imagine "The Ancient" with hundreds, nay, thousands more percussion parts!!  MORE COWBELL!

I just had a Prog Related dream. I was running the boards for Deep Purple, from the back of the stage. When the time came for a keyboard solo I was supposed to start a prerecorded cassette so John Lord could just mime it. I hit play, and the tape wasn’t cued up right, so it was just some piano tinkling and people talking. I hit fast forward and it was just audience sounds and clapping and laughter. Crap! I screwed that up! So I announced “That’s all I got, unless John wants to play something.” I looked over and it wasn’t John Lord at the keys it was someone I’ve never seen before. Then it dawned on me it’s not John Lord because he’s dead! This is getting worse and worse! Maybe I’ll be really lucky and this guy’s name happens to be John too. It was, but he didn’t know how to play keyboards so he just looked confused. Then I mercifully woke up.

THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT!!  Great addition!!

Your dream is very similar to the real-life experience of Mike Pinder with Moody Blues:

In an interview on the DVD The Moody Blues John identifies the Filmore
East as the venue where all the tapes fell out of the mellotron during a
show, and the audience watched Bugs Bunny cartoons while Mike Pinder
re-assembled it. There were back-to-back shows at the Filmore on October
25 & 26 in 1968, which was the MK II Modies first US tour. I have found no
clarification as to which night it was of the two. As to how long it took
him to repair it, I have no clue, but if it was multiple Bugs Bunny
cartoons, 20 minutes sounds about right.

My prog dreams are definitely related to how much time I spend on this site!!  Happy 2021 to all!!

I'm one of those people who has had probably 50 or more dreams with prog rock members involved.  Mostly Keith Emerson because of my early interest in keyboards, but also members of Genesis, Yes and Peter Hammill, Christian Vander and probably others.  Funnily enough I've had dreams with Mick Jagger and David Bowie even though I've never bought any of their albums and not a big Bowie fan.   They were nice friendly people in the dream and we got along well.  I became a big fan of Stereolab around 1998 and had dreams with them as well as Belle and Sebastian who I also got into around the same time.

Hi,

I have several, but I am not comfortable sharing them yet. I have written them all down, and if I get this done right, it will make a book of some sort. I even remember some conversations, although in most cases it seems like the situations play out by themselves.

Don't think I ever said anything silly, although (not in a dream, but in Eugene OR), during warm up Mike was trying out the fixes on his bass (the most beat up thing I ever have seen!), and 5 minutes later he asked ... is it too bass'y? ... and I said what would rock'n'roll be without the bass'y? Kind of a silly remark from me, but it wasn't too bass'y and he stayed with those levels and EQ. This was the tour that had Pierre in it, and the bass'y "style" for GONG fit better, and it made the band sound "heavier" instead of it crisp and with a jazz'y tone (Pip) or the tripping feel (the Soul2Soul drummer) in the three times I saw them!

For the book, Daevid Allen has a lot of moments. Not to mention that I really enjoyed yapping along with him, and he was a joy to spend time with. Gilly was also fantastic.

I've been having odd dreams about Bob Fripp lately....last one, I needed to drive Bob and Toyah from downtown Chicago to O'Hare Airport.  However, I forgot the route to drive there, so we started walking, dragging our luggage and Bob's gear with us.

I wish there was a way to record dreams!!

The only one I can think of involved me going to a Kansas concert with someone I only knew from a different internet forum. I really don't know why I would have that dream since I didn't really know that person too well in the first place and Kansas isn't a band I'm even very interested in seeing live anyway.

Thanks!  Who knows where dreams come from?  I've seen Kansas live twice....first time, they took the place of Queen to back up Mott the Hoople.  They were very energetic, this was the time of their first LP.  Second time, I wasn't as interested in them.

I dream a LOT about King Crimson and Fripp....probably because I watch so many videos of them, read about them etc.

In any event, sweet dreams!!

I think I had a dream that I was on stage with Dream Theater once. I was supposed to be playing with them, but couldn't find anything that I could keep up with.

Ended up prancing around the stage like a backup dancer during the show. Still had a good timeLOL

I once dreamt that I met up with Robert Wyatt at a pub, and over an ale we had a laid back conversation about Marxism and related things.  My dreams tend not to be of the more traditionally exciting ilk.

Welcome to PA!

I have the opposite problem - I dream in full color, elaborate dreams with plots/sub-plots, many characters etc.

Some I can trace to recent events, others are out of the blue.  I talk to my friends about them, they are a source of hilarity!

Well, I had a doozy!

I play guitar & bass, and one of the songs I often play is "Red" by King Crimson.  It is much fun!

Last night, I dreamt that I played it on bass before RF, Wetton, and Bruford!  They were very appreciative!

I also asked Bob what the meaning of "Sunday All Over the World" was, and he was his typically vague self.

RIP John Wetton, it was nice to dream about him.  I saw this band in concert on April 10, 1973 in Chicago.

Haven't had many music-related dreams, and don't remember them well. Not sure why.(???Unhappy)
The only ones I can vaguely remember are having to go perform (usually piano) and not remembering the music well enough, and panicking over it, and/or trying whatever I could improvise and hoping the audience would like it.

In contrast I've had hundreds of dreams about floating, going to bizarre tournaments for chess and scrabble, with detailed board positions (I've been involved in these kinds of game tournaments), scary/bizarre natural disasters (esp. floods), awkward social situations, and an occasional lucid dream, (where I'm aware I'm dreaming just before waking up).

It is interesting how dreams seem to come in clusters - why the hell I keep dreaming about Fripp is beyond me!  I don't listen to much Crimson lately, but I see him and Toyah online all the time with their Sunday sessions.

Last night I saw TCat (Mike) in my dream. It was very bizarre. I was in Canada, but sort of a fantastical version of it. There were bad characters in that, but Mike was a good fellow there (as he is here). One of my most memorably weird dreams. It could be counted as a scary nightmare for some, but I barely get scared in my dreams and real life.

Indeed!  The only member of that band I never met in person was John Wetton, RIP.

Interestingly, Peter Frampton's band "Frampton's Camel" opened for KC!!  It was a great show!!

I still email with RF on rare occasions, but he has been very busy, with the tour plans etc.  He has an amazingly wry & wicked sense of humor!

I just had a dream a few nights ago that I was walking around the shopping mall, and I came upon Mike, Tony and Phil (Genesis) hanging around the mall santa, chatting it up. I tried running up to go talk to them (specifically Mike as he just seemed really friendly), but woke up before I could get there.

Dream Interpretation? I wanted to see Genesis this tour, but wasn't able to make any of their showsWacko

Good one!  I'm often able to trace dreams back to actively pondering/thinking about a band, as you indicate.

The other night I had not a prog dream but a Prog Archives dream, so I thought I'd share:

I was at a Prog Archives meet. It was held in some kind of a combination of hostel and barrack. There were PA people sitting around, talking, just hanging out. I don't know which of you guys as I don't know any of you nor what you look like. But a good time was had by all. At some point I felt I needed to go out to read a book in peace. I did that and went to some park and sat on a bench. At the park, the band Jesus Lizard were playing an outdoor gig (they're a real band as some of you may know). I don't remember what they played, but it wasn't any of their real music. When they stopped, I asked their guitarist Duane Denison (who didn't look like real life him but it was him anyway) if they're gonna play more and he said they're just having a 10 minute break. I figured I'll get back to the meet and ask you guys to come along and see them. On my way back I got lost and ended up in the yard of some government buildings (that looked like the campus area of the local university) and I was surrounded by men in black who started to close in on me.

Clap Thanks for sharing!!  I've often wished we could have a PA gathering.  Imagine the guest list we might be able to draw!

I haven't had a prog dream in a while, but dreamt about Cheap Trick onstage.  As they come from near to the place of my birth (Rockford, Illinois USA), I've seen them many, many times.  Not a "prog band" by any stretch, but they have been very innovative....bassist Tom Petterson spurred the development of the mighty 12-string bass!!

Here, from their first LP.  This is a very nicely composed song.  Only song I've ever heard of that used a mando-cello.

I do not know if my dream was prog, but I made a prog album from the story of this dream...
I dreamed a girl in a white dress. She was in the courtyard of a castle. She had a copper nail on her forehead and a chain was passed through it. As soon as he saw me he disappeared behind a door.
More nightmare than progressive, I think...Wink

The only "prog dream" i have ever had, was i dreamt that i was watching a documentry on a certain species of animal who's one and only habitat in the world was in danger.   But in the end, dedicated activists did all they could to save their habitat, and they were sucsessful .  The documentry ended with Leap of Faith by IQ playing.

I've been having them lately but unfortunately I don't remember the details.

The problem with a PA gathering is that most people live scattered throught the country and even the world. So if I put together a gathering in the Philly area it wouldn't be fair to those who live in Chicago or California or Canada or South America or wherever!

i know, vexing problem!  How about a roving party of prog-heads, moving from city to city, country to country, continent to continent?

If some major label would pick it up, think of the massive turnout they could have!   Sort of like "Cruise to the Edge" on land!

I'm seeing more and more prog bands touring & playing a variety of venues....all it takes is $$$!

That would be fine, also!  I've become good friends with PresDoug over the years, and several others like LazLand!

What I was thinking of was more like Baja Prog, or one of the other big festivals.  It might be easier to do it virtually.  I'm sure many of us show up at the same shows (especially folks like Steve Hackett), but I don't know how we connect with one another.

A few pages back I posted a Prog Related dream I had about Deep Purple. Well, now I've had a Prog Related-Related dream about Whitesnake. Weird thing is I very rarely have ever listened to either one, aside from the inevitable radio exposure.

I went to see Witesnake. They were playing in what looked like a high school theater. The stage looked like Peewee’s Playhouse set. David Coverdale came out with a blue Telecaster and started singing a song about a boy who was the greatest guitarist in the world but he refused to play. He played a guitar solo and threw the guitar to the back of the stage but it turned into a cheap ‘80s special effect and spun off into the background. Neal Schon from Journey popped in on a balcony in the stage set and started singing about love and inclusiveness. I rolled my eyes and then realized he was looking right at me so I felt bad. Then David Coverdale dropped to his knees with his back to the audience and with his fists in the air sang “Why must you forsake your own hands!?” in the style of Charlton Heston. Neal Schon popped back in to sing some more, looking right at me. I turned to my friend and in my best gay voice said “it’s like he’s singing directly to ME!”  I said it way too loud and everyone heard it and half the theater laughed and the other half gave me a dirty look. I felt bad again.

I had the song "Here I Go Again" stuck in my head for several days before this dream. The music in the dream was based on that song. I really didn't know it was Whitesnake until I googled it afterward. As far as I knew it was Night Ranger or 38 Special or White Lion or Great White or Bon Jovi...
