I'm voting for Phil Oakey & co, and when it comes to Sheffield bands, they're in a Human League of their own. Smile

I've never thought of Simple Minds as being Synth-Pop, but Soft Cell are the quintessential Synth-Pop band for me. Smile

Gary Numan/Tubeway Army - the first few albums were fantastic

I tried to include an A-Z of all of the major Synth Britannia artists in this one poll, because I wasn't planning on a Part Two. Smile

Are Friends Electric? I think friends on PA are more eclectic than electric. Smile

Big Talk Talk fan here, however I like them the more the less synth they use.
Voted for Goldfrapp; maybe not very popular around here.

It was a simple choice between the Thompson Twins or Talk Talk when I came to the letter "T", but the choice was obvious when I discovered Talk Talk are on ProgArchives. As far as I'm aware, I think Talk Talk are the only Synth-Pop band in the poll who are on PA. Nope, that's wrong. I just remembered Jon & Vangelis are included here on PA too. Smile

Well, Talk Talk are synth pop for a maximum of two albums, and they are here for those after that period.

You're asking a bunch of over 50 white guys who was their favorite synth-pop band from the 80's?

Tubeway Army

I'm an over 60 white guy and I still like Synth-Pop from the 80's. Smile

Goldfrapp were an easy choice for the poll as they're the only Synth-Pop band I could think of beginning with the letter "G". Smile

Some great choices From the list I vote for Gary Numan, with Depeche Mode a close second.

From that era, Japan are probably my favourite band.

Honoury mentions to OMD and Ultravox who were both excellent early on in their careers.

Some great bands and between them they have made a number of classic albums (Lexicon of Love, Vienna, Spirit of Eden for instance). The best of the lot is Spirit of Eden but Talk Talk were not a synth-pop band by then and this is about as far from synth-pop as you can get, but they still get my vote.

From this list, I'd say 2Talk (the only I actually like - including their poppier albums), with very distant second (tied) DM & OMD and then far behind Eurythmics and GN&TA

But this electro-pop was generally all I hated in the 80's (and still nowadays), so I'd say they all suck (not that I was aware of all of them, though)

BTW: is Goldfrapp not totally out of the timeframe context?Confused

Yes, but I couldn't think of another Synth-Pop band beginning with "G" Smile

I knew Steve Strange's Visage didn't have much hope of winning this poll, but they'll always be remembered for this Synth-Pop classic from 1980. Heart

It looks like Gary Numan is the favourite here, although I was expecting Talk Talk to win for some bizarre reason.  Wink

They get my vote for those albums.

They are not winning here because they are usually loved on PA for their experimental work.

I'm surprised and disappointed to see The Human League has only picked up one vote so far (from me). Cry

I didn't expect you to thank me for posting these famous songs (which is just as well), but it really doesn't matter if you've heard these Synth Pop classics a hundred times before, as they still sound great over forty years on, and anyway, it's better than posting them on a Top 7 YES albums thread. Tongue

yeah, but it's rather redundant posting the videos. You can just list the song titles, makes more sense to me. These songs are so famous, no videos are necessary here if you ask me.

Voted Soft Cell, if only for the song Tainted Love.

Everyone make sure to check out Coil's cover version of it, preferably the music video.

edit: silly me, Soft Cell's version is already a cover of Gloria Jones song.

Hardly redundant. It's so long ago since I saw some of these classic Synth Pop videos that it's almost like seeing them for the first time again. Smile

You're probably right. I may be flogging a dead horse in trying to revive an appreciation of 80's Synth-Pop on a Prog-Rock website. Tongue

it's funny and strange in the same time how my interaction with Paul is no good, whether we argue or we're kind to each other. Ouch

Here is what you said to me in one of our discussions, Cristi. "I never like to argue with anyone.
Let's just stay away from each other." Why can't you do that with Paul?

I thought you and me were supposed to stay away from each other.

As for me and Paul, we're getting along just fine, despite our differences. I can't stay away from Paul, he'll miss me and then, what? LOL

Vive La Difference! Despite our many differences of opinion over the last two and a half years, I'd miss you if you weren't here, and if I weren't here, then I hope in some small way you might miss me too,  although I could be wrong and you may disagree with me again. Big smile
