Post your top 10 of prog bands whose output in the 21st century you find to be the strongest.

In my case, I'm going to exclude artists who have left some mark in the 00s/10s but have a bigger portion or the majority of great records before the turn of the century, like Dream Theater (most great records were in the 90s) or Discipline (one of the two strong albums released in the 90s, the other, while amazing, not great enough to justify being included in the top 10). However, 21st century Magma is just as good, if not better, than 70s Magma, so I feel their place in the list is reasonable in spite of being associated with the roots of prog and zeuhl.

My list, no specific order within:

Wobbler
Magma
Birds and Buildings
Phideaux
Porcupine Tree
Opeth
IQ
maudlin of the Well
Mastodon
Anekdoten

The following list is based on favourite 21st century albums (not necessarily the bands themselves):

01. Änglagård
02. Maudlin of the Well
03. Lost Crowns
04. King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard
05. Helium Horse Fly
06. Riverside

EDIT:

I just realised that I had forgotten Wobbler, which should go in 6th position.

I suppose it doesn't really matter but The Dillinger Escape Plan, Beardfish and Porcupine Tree are no longer around. Neither is the Mars Volta (although you didn't list them).

I would tend to agree with this list as far as popularity goes although there might be a few others you could list such as the Tangent and Big Big Train. If more metallish bands are what you are after or more mainstream (both tend to have better album sales)then a few others would be Coheed and Cambria, Muse, Between the Buried and Me, Mastodon, King Gizzard and the lizard wizard and others.

Magma are an older band though so for me I would sooner list Rush, Flower Kings, Spock's Beard and Glass Hammer.

He's not answering you because you are bugging him about it. At first it was because he wasn't around but now it's because you are pestering him and he's just avoiding the question altogether. Typically when you keep bothering someone about something they are more inclined to ignore you or avoid answering the question deliberately. I believe that's what happened here.

I like BG(Big Generator) so I can't answer for him. Wink

Grey Lady Down had one album in the 21st century(2001)and the rest were from the 90's so hardly a 21st century band imo. Aside from that they were at the time considered very derivative neo prog. One site in particular(that is no longer around) said they were the lowest rated band.

One thing that slightly surprises me (although I should know you bunch) is that Swans' absolutely iconic 2010s trilogy hasn't put them on anyone's list yet except mine. For me it makes them number 1 actually.

The Mars Volta
The Psychedelic Ensemble
And yet more! The amount of new prog is endless (mainly because it's being made right now).
Idiot I am, I completely forgot Haken. I've also decided it's a bit cruel to say Pendragon is the best based on the only album I have by them in the 21st century (though it's one of my favourite albums now), so this is my new list:
Thank You Scientist
Haken
Pendragon
Steven Wilson
Porcupine Tree
IQ
Pyramid Theorem
Sanguine Hum
Discipline
The Mars Volta
Lower down: The Psychedelic Ensemble, Caligula's Horse, Pyramid Theorem, Citizen Cane,  King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, Sylvan, etc.
