Subject: your 5 favorite prog albums of decade 2000-2009

what are your favorite 5 prog album of the decade 2000-2009? mine are these (in no specific order):
by the way: I am surprised B for Bang are still not in the archives. they made 2 very interesting albums; besides the one I mentioned from 2008 also this one from 2010:
one of their key (sic!) members is Katia Labeque, famous classical pianist and former wife of John McLaughlin. their first album is one of the most experimental albums EVER! the second is a bit more tame but still quite experimental.
for those who don't know their albums and are curious here one of the most experimental tracks from the first album:
if this was too experimental for you here a less experimental (but still experimental) track from the album:
and here a track from their second album:
since this is still definitely an experimental track (a completely rewired version of "Dear Prudence" by the Beatles) but it is from the less experimental album you can guess just how experimental the first one is

Well I don't know a ton of modern prog, but there's nothing out there which could shove The Resistance or Origin Of Symmetry out of my top 5.
------------- Porg for short. My love of music doesn't end with prog! Feel free to discuss all sorts of music with me. Odds are I'll give it a chance if I haven't already! :)

Let's see, Terria, from Devin Townsend, Out There, from Rick Wakeman, Train of Thought, from Dream Theater, Anno Domini High Definition, from Riverside, The Whirlwind, from Transatlantic.
And not so prog, I might add, Mother Earth from Within Temptation, Secret of the Runes from Therion, and I guess Cult and Reflections from Apocalyptica. Perhaps also Ilumination from Tristania.

I love them all actually.. by far my favorite modern prog group...but Tio Bitar was my gateway into them.. and is still my favorite.. one of favorite night and day.. light and dark albums. It hits my multiple musical G-spots with all the length and girth they deserve. God almighty does it flat out rock at times.. yet with the next song you would get this absolutely gorgeous melodic piece. Doesn't hurt it probably has the only modern entry on my 'greatest blow thy speakers' ever recorded list. At #8

there simply were so many great albums.. in fact.. one might argue.. more than one had the 70's. There was a reason the prog revival really hit and sites like this blossomed.. there was SO MUCH great music for us to discover.. and of such expanded and different styles from all over the f**king world man

it rips.. it smokes .. it rules.. almost as much as Reine's hair does..
what make that album so great.. hell all of them is the diversity in them. They do have a couple of songs per album that Reine self immolates.. but they are balanced with some really folky melodic and at times.. I dare say.. flat out beautiful stuff.
this is another major fav of mine..

what a decade.. rivaling.. and in ways topping the 'golden age' of the 70's. It was a great time to be collab on this site we literally had more great music thrown at us on the genre teams than you could fully assimulate.
1. Dungen - Tio Bitar. The ultimate light and shade album.. incendiary and beautiful at the same time.
2. Miriodor - Avanti. The album that started me down the dark path of uncle Ian and auntie Raff
3. Guapo - Elxers. Yeah everyone.. especially those two love Five Suns. This was the album that was a 2x4 to the head. Helped in large part by having my single favorite 'track' of the decade. The Selenotrope
4. Battles - Mirrored. Called... and rightfully so.. the ITCOTCK of the 21st century. The template for today's 'not your daddies' progressive rock
5. Agalloch - The Mantle. Incredible album by my fellow Portlandiers which seemingly lost to many as it came out before the internet and music forums were beginning to rev up.

what a decade.. rivaling.. and in ways topping the 'golden age' of the 70's.
Nice updated list, Mickster! All stellar albums--each packing quite the punch.
I've listened to all of Agalloch's albums now (studio releases) and wonder if you get the same sense that I do that the band got kind of stuck in a rut: they all sound the same! It's a great sound, but there is so little change or deviation or freshness to any of the albums it's almost shocking (to me).
I love your perfect description of Tio Bitar: definitely the most Batman-like of all of their wonderful discography. (Don't guess you've ever had that convergence with Reine yet, have you?)

No, I think that would be PT's "in absentia." At least that's what PROG magazine says(although they didn't use the KC analogy). For me personally maybe the first Transatlantic album although that came out in 2000 and technically that might not be considered the 21st century. Another possibility would be the first Mars Volta album "deloused..."
