Logan has put his exotic choices in a poll: he and I have very disparate tastes, so I thought I'd chuck my take on the 10 best bands into the mix. I had to make a very tough choice to eventually leave Lazuli out, which is a pity because it's the only French band I've ever really liked.

I have exotic tastes in dancers. ;) My tastes are diverse. We definitely have our differences in tastes, but also overlap (especially in classic stuff). I've often mentioned the Snow Goose being one of my favourite albums, and I know you you like it very much. .
I like music in this poll very much, particularly by Camel, Strawbs and Horslips-- I have multiple Camel albums and Strawbs, but only The Táin by Horslips. I tend to veer towards the underdog in a poll, but I am voting Camel. The debut to Moonmadness plus A Live Record have meant very much to me. If this were multiple choice like my poll, I'd vote for those three.
EDIT: Like I said in my poll in response to you, "What can be interesting, but rarely is, is how tastes may totally differ on some things while harmonising on others. I tend to seek and focus more on the connections rather than the disconnections." But actually, I am interested in where those tastes both diverge and converge. When I think of you, I think, yeah we have differences but also similarities (I pay attention to what people like and don't like partially as I'm interested in people, and getting to know them more fully). I have broad tastes, and like most people here, I like a lot of the classic prog. Of the others in the list, I have found music I liked too (I've looked into all of them, and was recommended a Big Big Train track that I really enjoyed). Some can take a little more digging than others (I'm not generally that big on metal, a lot of hard rock, or arena rock/ AORish melodic rock). I like a lot of pastoral music and am more of a folky than a rocker at heart. My first love was classical music. There'a lot of folk, classical, jazz, rock, pop, lounge, Indie, electronica, academic, world music, some country music, that I love. Some is complex, some is simple, some is so-called avant garde, some is mainstream, some is "art" music, some is more industrial, some is oft considered high-brow, some low-brow, some is exotic and some is quite pedestrian. I do love exotica and the quirky.

I voted for Riverside. If you had multiple choices, I would have picked Marillion also. I found personal likes and dislikes on both Logan's and your list. That's the beauty of having individual tastes. What??? Still no French TV?

Strawbs narrowly over Camel, then Marillion, then I don't care.

I thought I could cast multiple votes on this one, too, so voted for the first appealing option, which was in fact the first option. Ooops. Could have voted for half of them.

Tough call between BBT, Camel, and Riverside.
I'll go the latter.

Big Big Train. If multiple votes were allowed, I might have picked Camel, IQ and Horslips as well.

Vote for Camel who lead this by some distance for me, though I like some IQ and Strawbs. Logan's poll is closer to my tastes, not surprisingly.

It would seem that I vote for Logan.

I actually have very few albums from this list of artists. But my favourite album from this list is from Riverside.

What really brings them down is very butt average vocals ! throw rocks at me I don't care somebody has to speak the truth and say it. In reality Camel are about half as good as this site lets on.

Big Big Train, over IQ, Riverside, Marillion, Pendragon and Haken.

Impulse wanted me to go with BBT because of their strong output these last few years.
After consideration, I couldn't ignore IQ's (almost)consistent run of essential albums since they began.

There are very interesting bands here, and I love some of them. But, on this poll, I definitely choose Camel. It's a classic prog band and I'm a classic prog fan either.
