Just got married on Tuesday! I thought a way to inform people (so that you can celebrate me anyway, I will accept your congratulations in PM section, and curious members may find my msn messenger address in my profile (which also works as mail, but be sure to send messages from another hotmail address, otherwise they will probably go down to junk mail, which I will lose in 7 days), I won't promise to reply all however, because I have a limited internet connection at work, and barely find a chance on weekends! Coming back to the topic: We haven't organized a wedding feast as the traditional Turkish way, so I am thinking of some "lighter" prog/proto-prog/prog related songs to play in my wedding feast, which will propbably happen in a month or two (what can I do, we had complications!!! my wife is from Moldova, a former Soviet country btw...) here's a short list which came down to my mind at a glance: Rhytmic/dance tracks, also suitable for the average Turkish guests: Slow tracks suitable for slow dances:
I chose the Anubian Lights track just for its Arabic melodies, which is very common here. The Can track has Baglama (a traditional turkish instrument) in it, with a reggae rhythm, which is not far from the taste of the common man!!! any other suggestions!?!? ------------- Listen to Turkish psych/prog; you won't regret: Baris Manco,Erkin Koray,Cem Karaca,Mogollar,3 Hürel,Selda,Edip Akbayram,Fikret Kizilok,Ersen (and Dadaslar) (but stick with the '70's, and 'early 80's!) |

Wow. I'm sorry. Please accept my condolences. I hate to use this song twice, but "Punch and Judy" by Marillion is a great wedding song. Or how about Arrow by VDGG? I love that line "fickle promises of treaty, fatal harbingers of war." Or maybe "The Lady Lies" by Genesis? I heard this the other way round: one reviewer who reviewed "Pawn Hearts" said "don't play it with a girl with whom you're planning to get laid" etc...  Thankfully my wife has already heard plenty of VdGG by now!!! Not to mention she hates most of the prog Besides, sleeping on the couch playing VdGG would be a present, rather than punishment to me  My stereo (which is merely 12 Watts or so) is in the living room and I cannot hear it from the bedroom!

Otherwise I will have to listen stupid folk dance songs all over my wedding P.S. Don't worry, I will take control of the thing in this one! My cousin is an organist/singer (actually works as music teacher now!) and I don't think he's going to let me down with this! I'm thinking of planning the whole thing with him, and though he's more into classical, he has a considerable prog collection (which he never listens!). Anyway, it's OK even if he steals my CD'S Thanks again, Bob! Vevey is a good suggestion, though I have it as Vevey Pt. 1 and Vevey Pt. 2 in Yesyears collection. I assume they are the same thing, since my tracks are noted to be GftO outtakes. Maybe I can use Parallels at some stage, eh Maybe I can find some danceable tracks in Six Wives of Henry VIII. That's why I'm trying to find mellower songs, which are at least prog related, but will not hurt our guests' ears btw, in the forthcoming wedding I will probably not play the songs to the in-laws, because my wife has quite a few relatives that could attend to my wedding in my hometown... Have I mentioned she's from Moldova!?!? Most of her relatives live in several parts of the ex-Soviet (mainly in Russia I suppose) and even if they come, they will be welcome in the church ceremony, which will be held in Istanbul. At my wedding, 15 years ago and still going strong thank you very much,
the only music we played was 'The Meeting' by Anderson, Bruford,
Wakeman & Howe off their first album. It is a beautiful piece of
music, yet a little subversive (if you knew the crowd at our ceremony).
Slow and elegant, yet uplifting. Great for a slow dance if you are so
inclined.
