Topic: Psychedelic Paul, where is he?Posted By: Gentle and Giant
Subject: Psychedelic Paul, where is he?

I wonder what's happened to Psychedelic Paul. He was so prolific, then nothing since the 7th April. From his posts I know he lives alone. I just hope everything is OK in this current climate.

I actually have wondered the same thing, it is concerning when someone is so active, then disappears. There was much we disagreed on (off music topics), but he did have a love for learning about music and wanted to communicate that with others, which was apparent. I too, hope he's OK.

Posting overdose (burn-out), maybe??
Or maybe he realized Trump is a dickhead and Brexit was the wrong thing to do. So he's recuperating from his blindness and finally seen the light.
All kidding aside, hope he's OK.

Just scary all around, and hope that everything is well for him and family as well.

I got that, but I wanted to mention it in case there was any confusion. I doubt he would be tripping in any way at this time, and hope he is okay. While I can't easily imagine he's traveled on holiday (given his age and the pandemic), hopefully he is just taking a holiday from the site, or doesn't have access to the internet.
I was referring to this, as well:

Paul is someone I really liked and appreciated at this site, and despite whatever differences we ever seemed to have, he was kind enough to share his appreciation for me. I'm very worried about him, and if he see this, I hope he reports back immediately. I care about him very much.

^ Agree. I lost a close family friend to COVID 19 very recently.
I wish we had a better system for staying in touch with each other, and checking up on each other. Partially as a support group, cause we all go through hard times and face and deal with tragedy.
On a related note: This site might go down, if then, how hard would it be for the community to re-connect? At a forum I was on before joining this one, we had a really close-knit community, the site went down and we all mostly lost touch. Its sad to think how many members we must have lost during my time here, not because they lost interest, but because they died. of course that's inevitable, and these are particularly worrying times. Losing Anotoine (Febus) was the worst thing that happened to many of us. It hit me really hard, I had been PMing with him shortly before his operation, and everybody that knew him here loved him. but I'm glad that we had the chance to pay our respects and that he is remembered. He told me, life is too short, make the most of it. He was scared, but he kept such a positive attitude, and was always warm and considerate of others, and there to listen. He cared about others, and others cared about him.

^ Thank you. I think a lot of us are trying our best to stay positive, and distract ourselves because dwelling on it would make one crazy. We all need to do our best, and try to be extra responsible in these troubling times. It does make one think more about what's really important in life.

We need humour to keep the spirits up, can help us to stay a little more sane, and your comment didn't strike me as insensitive, and it was witty. I wouldn't like this forum nearly so much without your wit. Because it came up earlier with Mike's comment, but I decided not to follow-up on it at the time, I wanted to point out, for any who might not know, that Paul has specified that he doesn't do such stuff, and it just has something to do with his music tastes. I love psychedelic music, but it's been a very long time since I last tripped the light fantastic.

I'm glad no harm was done; you're one of the kindest of souls, and I certainly wouldn't want to cause you any hurt. Or anyone else either, for that matter.
These days I also prefer psychedelic music (by which I mean, music that can change my state of consciousness and perception without chemical help, rather than just the genre) to the other kind of psychedelics.

Let's not catastrophize (looks like that's not an actual word but it is certainly something I tend to do!). I'm not saying it isn't of note that he has been absent after being so involved, but there could be more reasons why he's ok than not ok.

^ yeah, everybody should just calm down. There are many reasons he may
not have time to chime in on music sites. Could be family problems,
health problems, etc. Let's just focus on the best possible outcome for
him no matter what's going on.

I wouldn't say that anybody in this topic, let alone everybody here, needs to calm down. Various people are, I think, understandably concerned, but people appear rational to me -- well, as rational as usual. (j/k). I sometimes think "Expect the worst; hope for the best", but that has to do with not being disappointed, and this is a different sort of case for me.

Beautifully expressed *makes a mental note to use that in conversation in the future*
On a related note, there are far too many, I think, who seek to invalidate other's feelings and perspectives, and it's often done so in a patronising manner by resorting to hyperbole, misrepresentation, and gross generalisations. I think one should be very careful when telling others how they should feel and how they are feeling, and how they should react and are reacting. I do expect it comes down to a lack of empathy often.

Maybe the CEA (Chief Executive Admin), should do a PA roll-call? ......I mean M@X has not been active since Aug 2019, anyone concerned? There are only 55K members, shouldn't take too long.
-------------

M@x is still active with site business (or at least has been until very recently -- a few days ago that I know of), he just hasn't logged into the forum for quite some time (that's what the last visit indicates). He hasn't been a fixture at the forum for a very long time.
EDIT: By the way, the times I've been concerned various times when very active users have suddenly dropped off this site for no apparent reason (of course with COVID-19, people are understandably more concerned still). Many of our members (registered users) never posted or were never that involved. They never really became, or tried to become, part of our community. Many registered, then did nothing beyond that (never posted, never rated, never reviewed), and moved on. Some were only really involved in rating one or various albums and then lost interest. A bunch joined at one time just to vote in a poll. In many cases, individuals created various accounts (I started one earlier account). I got involved with a few forums, posted for a bit, then stopped abruptly cause I never really felt integrated or invested. I wasn't enough of a fixture to think I'd be missed or thought about. It's the forum fixtures who suddenly disappear that give me concern sometimes (and in Paul's case, he also was an active reviewer).
Some of us have active, public email addresses listed in the forum profile, and that's one way to try to connect with individuals. There are many reasons why someone might suddenly go missing without warning, but that need not negate a sense of concern. In some cases I've been very concerned because there have been warning signs which has made me think that the person's physical or mental health was in jeopardy.

Sadly, we are all going to die, some sooner than others. That's no reason for me to panic. I accept the inevitability of my own death, all that I love, and that the universe itself is facing heat death. All things must pass (or change state one might say). For myself, I sometimes like to think, "We're here for a good time, not a long time, so have a good time, the sun can't shine every day". Someone should make a song about that.

This reminds me, and not to over step this thread about psychedelic paul hopefully we get news on him. But I have been wondering about member TeleStrat (Gary Burks from Calif). Here on PA his last visit was March 2018, but I know why. He was a huge contributor to our Vinyl thread and Listening To thread......We would discuss vinyl all the time and I pointed him to the Steve Hoffman Forums as he was looking for a lot more vinyl discussions.
At Hoffman he quickly became a daily poster very respected regarding his collection, everyone really liked him.....Then nothing. It was summer last year that I asked there but don't recall a response. He was in his 70s so umm not sure what might have happened. His last visit to SHoffman was January 2019.
Hoping he too is well.

This was sort of how I read Paul and was going to say the same when this thread first started. Then there are those of us who linger here forever in half-assed sort of way! Paul had mentioned that he had no smart phone which might mean he is not very tech savvy, and he might be having connection problems. Like I said, I think there are a lot of non catastrophic explanations for what might have happened. Very nice what happened in this thread: confronting each other, worrying about Psychelic Paul first and then worrying about each other (A hug to Greg). I don't know Paul but he seems young to me, and whoever says that when a person suddenly appears on a site and floods him with dozens of messages every day he often disappears as suddenly as he had arrived. Maybe instead he simply had problems with the computer. Who knows, but he's young, I think, so I'm not worried about his health.

The Northern Italy lockdown was the first in Europe and will be the last to end ... in the early days of May. Italy is the only European country that will not reopen schools in May. I teach and from 24 February I do online teaching, and I will return to teach in September, for this year we will not take exams, pupils will all be promoted. Lombardy, like Madrid or the city of New York is a real nightmare. From May I will start going out a little more.
I write on progarchives almost always in the late evening, from midnight to 2,30 (sometimes until 4!) in the morning, when my partner sleeps, it is a way to let off steam, to distract me. For several days especially in February and March, the fear of getting infected was such when I left the house to do shopping that I was too anxious even in the evening to unplug my brain and get distracted, so I was often absent from progarchives. When I came I saw the dozens of posts by Paul and sometimes I asked myself: but how much time does it spend here? Does not study? Not working? I thought so with envy, I would love to spend all my time listening to music, watching movies, reading books and writing. Slowly I had to get used to this life and find a way to continue living by keeping fear in check, and so I started to distract myself and I went back here to writing reviews and new posts on the forum....
And I'm glad to find ourselves here while the world is in lockdown and to know that many of you here are concerned about writing a private message to Paul and worrying about each other and exchanging the emails.

Very nice what happened in this thread: confronting each other, worrying about Psychelic Paul first and then worrying about each other (A hug to Greg). Maybe instead he simply had problems with the computer. Who knows, but he's young, I think, so I'm not worried about his health.

yeah... and I've told various people when I first joined that I was blond haired big tittled lonely progger looking for some love...
that got messy quickly when a collab starting humping my leg seriously and I had to break his heart and disappear (though i kept that account for nefarious poll tipping) and rejoined the site... as the Big Mick..
only to pose as a 70 year old hard core old school back in the day progger ... and that really didn't work when my copious charms and sense of humor started getting Raff interested in me and figured she'd be in for a shock meeting me and finding I not only had the body of greek god.. but was oh.. about 30 years younger than the gig I was working..
in short.. no one trolls like me... and I know them.. my best trolling in fact has been on others sites ...and if he is 60 years old.. then I'm permanently leaving the site.
still... a harmless troll.. and friendly enough. Hope he is well though likely got bored.. I woulld have if not for impressing enough with my knowledge of music that I got Shangai'd into working for the site.

I'm Back! I've been over-whelmed with emotion and almost in tears from reading through all of the lovely warm-hearted comments about me on this thread from all of the kind members here. I feel deeply touched and honoured by the concern over my whereabouts. I'm flabbergasted. In fact, my flabber has never been so gasted! I had no idea I would be missed so much and I'm happy to reassure everyone that I haven't been away on some crazy psychedelic acid trip from Hell. I only like psychedelic music and I don't touch the LSD drugs that go with the whole psychedelic scene. Music and Love are the only "drugs" I need in life. For anyone who wonders how I came up with my Psychedelic Paul username, it's a play on words based on the Neil Young album "Psychedelic Pill" It's nice to know James Baldwin thought I was relatively young, as I'm actually 60 years of age, as Kenneth Levine correctly stated. In regard to concerns over my health, I'm absolutely fine and I'm all fired up and ready to Rock & Roll again. The only fever I have is seasonal hayfever and I haven't come down with a nasty case of Bieber Fever or the Chinese Virus. Unfortunately, I can't say publicly why I disappeared from here for a month-long holiday on the tropical island of Hiatus, because my reason for temporarily leaving concerns another member here, but I've sent out several private messages today to explain why I needed to get away from here for awhile. Anyway, just to reassure everyone that I'm back and Ready to Rock, I've posted a fresh album review today for a British band called Deep Feeling, which seems somehow appropriate, as I've been filled with deep feelings of love and friendship and happiness after reading so many good wishes and nice comments from everyone here who missed me and I wish I could reply to everyone individually. so finally, in the words of that great philosopher Ozzy Osbourne, I'd just like to say collectively:- "THANK YOU. I LOVE YOU ALL"

Thanks Gentle and Giant. It means a lot to me seeing the tremendous amount of support and goodwill from you and all of my other good friends here, and it's great to be back. I would have come back earlier if I'd seen your thread before today and realised how much everyone here had missed me, even those who disagree with me on politics.
