The Beatles’ “Yesterday” is the one I “covered” the most while doing Karaoke, Maybe a children’s song such as “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star”, or that one that goes something like “A, B, C, D, E...”. Uh, I can’t remember how it goes after that, but some of you might remember the lyrics from when you were a kid, and/or had your own. I shouldn’t necessarily assume it’s in English, could it be “"Non Possum Credere me Totum Edisse”?

My guess is some modern r n b thing by Whitney or MJ or some Elvis song or maybe Bing's White Christmas. But as you're asking I bet it is some prog song.

I've always heard that Yesterday was the most covered song, but if that's not it, Google is not showing any indication that it's something else. Is it a national anthem or something?

I'll give you a hint: it is actually from an opera but is extremely well known as a stand-alone song. at least one band in the archives covered it too (but I am certain there are more)

Nessun Dorma then.
And if you are including the modern musical style operas, could it then be something from West Side Story or South Pacific?

Summertime? That way you have both the opera people and the jazz people contributing to the total (plus the occasional pop or rock interpretation).

Give us another clue. Is it classical opera or modern musical opera?

Yes, the Big Brother cover hint gave it away for me. Fun to consider the various responses. Wonderful question and good trivia knowledge, though, thank you!

I just checked up on this, as it isn't a subject I've ever even thought about before, and Summertime is listed as No. 6 and Yesterday is No. 1.

I read once that The House of the Rising Sun is the most covered song since 1933.
There are 20 versions just in Spanish

I would have guessed Summertime too, although I suspect that with the immense amount of music that gets recorded each day and all that which keeps getting discovered in vaults, people will continue to be divided on what the actual answer is.

If you are referring to the linked article above, it doesn't say the songs are ranked in any particular order. Just that they are 10 of the most covered song. The article doesn't even say 'the 10 most'covered song. They might not all be in the top 10 because it doesn't specify how many most covered songs were considered.
