It's make your own album time again, and this time it's the turn of Scottish Pop/Rock band Deacon Blue, following in the wake of the Alan Parsons Project, Kate Bush, Tears for Fears and Prefab Sprout. The usual rules apply:- Choose one favourite song from each of the ten albums listed below to create your own personalised album of ten favourite Deacon Blue songs. In was never a fan tbh. Deacon Blue are the only band I have ever seen bottled off the stage at a festival. It was pretty sad, as they sounded quite good live, I thought. At the same festival The Bolshoi were being pelted too, but carried on playing, despite broken noses etc..  ------------- Ultimately bored by endless ecstasy! |

| This is a bit of a blast from the past! I really like their second album but I've not heard any of the others so I can't really participate, however thanks for reminding me, I might go and listen to this album now. |

My pleasure! I was beginning to think I was the only PA member who liked Deacon Blue. Side Two will be coming up soon when I've had a listen to Deacon Blue's remaining five albums.

It's really sad to hear they were forced off the stage due to disruptive crowd violence, especially considering what a loyal fanbase Deacon Blue have, including me.

Ha. I've seen both these live. Deacon Blue in Aberdeen when virtually nobody had heard of them - quite good then. And The Bolshoi supporting The Cult in Edinburgh. I've still got Lindy's Party and Friends albums - loved Away, great song. Deacon Blue's first album was pretty good, never really followed them after that.

They lasted two songs, before a bottle hit the female signer on the arm. She wasn't hurt, and in fact just laughed it off, but Ricky Ross signalled to the band to stop playing, he took her by the arm, and marched her off stage. A few minutes later he came back on stage to apologise to fans who'd come to them but they weren't prepared to play under those conditions. That's when a bottle struck him on the shoulder, and some security guy rushed on stage and ushered him off. It was quite a tense atmosphere. ------------- Ultimately bored by endless ecstasy! |

Actually, correction to my earlier post, The Bolshoi played at the same festival the year before DB. I had those two albums you mention. I seem to remember preferring Friends at the time. The Bolshoi were playing the same day as The Stranglers and Alice Cooper, and just sounded weak. I remember the singer proclaiming "I bleed for my art" as we wiped blood from his nose. Zodiac Mindwarp were also on that day. That was chaos too, flying bottles, the band inviting the crowd to fight them, and someone letting off a canister of CS gas down the front causing a stampede away from the stage. Festivals in the 80's. Great fun.. ------------- Ultimately bored by endless ecstasy! |

Must be something about the 80s. The worst I saw was Spear of Destiny. Poor old Kirk Brandon standing at the front of stage as he was covered by spit from the front row (hopefully only spitting). Bless him though he carried on and thankfully I was further back. Horrible stuff.
