I love all forms of conventional music but i also really love pioneers who invent different instruments or modify existing ones to do something totally out of the box.

What are some of your favorite DIY musical inventions? No reason to limit this to instruments. Tell me about any sort of musical ideas that were really unique.

I just came across this and was like WHOAH! What a great idea :)

^ That is incredible.   At first I assumed the Lego neck lent itself mainly to microtones but that thing can do it all.

Uli Roth developed his Sky Guitar that expanded the guitar's higher registers by increasing frets and expanding neck reach, and eventually adding a seventh string: "It takes a little getting used to but it's worth it because you're getting fully analog high notes that don't get on any other guitar" . --Uli Jon Roth

^ Wow. Those are some badass lookin' guitars! Uli Roth was a god! Love those early Scorps albums. Didn't know he invented the 7 string. I know Steve Vai has made a career out of it more than most.

This looks pretty cool as well

The world's largest pipe organ was built between May, 1929, and December, 1932, by the Midmer-Losh Organ Company of Merrick, Long Island, New York. It boasts seven manuals and has 1,439 stop keys, as well as 1,255 speaking stops, 455 ranks, and 33,112 pipes! The organ weighs in at approximately 150 tons. The most impressive stop on the organ would have to be the 16 foot Ophicleide, which is the world's loudest stop. This stop has six times the volume of the loudest train whistle.

^ is that Richard Simmons' dad? LOL. Cool instrument for sure!

Everyone should check out the Vienna Vegetable Orchestra. This video shows how they go shopping for vegetables and turn them into instruments that they play in concert. Now if THAT'S not innovative, i don't know what is! I have their album Onionoise and it's not bad!
