We got prog essentials in the form of From Silence to Somewhere, All Traps On Earth, Hand Cannot Erase so i'd say it was good

However the Prog movement strided unnoticed, it seems to be the box set reissues have provided stumbling blocks to distract from new Prog.

What's the rush? We still have nine days left dude. Oooh I must consult my spreadsheet... I am going to talk releases that were released, recorded, or wrapped up recording in that period or I will go insane. It may be too late...

what's the rush? Hah... the sooner 2020 gets here the better.. for all of us ![LOL LOL](smileys/smiley36.gif)
nice decade.. I'd rate it just below the 90's.. but definitely well above the 80's. Some classics but there is no ignoring that this was the decade the great prog rivival of the late 90's early oughts revival crashed and the community fractured.. prog festivals closed up shop.. and where prog stagnated and progressive fan turned their collective backs on the retro self parody sh*t called prog rock.
the 70's . the Oughts ...... the 90's ..... 1/2 the 10's ....................... the f**king 80's

First up (ugh, after the first two I just realized I will have to stick with highlights otherwise this could take a few months) 2010:Jeff Beck, Jeff Emotion & Commotion Rel. 2010 Apr. Awesome bass player Tal Wilkenfeld, I think she helped inspire one of his better albums. Reasoning, The Adverse Camber Rel. 2010 Apr. Alas they would be short lived on the scene but they burned rather bright. The Thirteenth Hours stirs something within me still. The companion album, Acoustically Speaking is very nice, too. Ferry, Bryan Olympia Rel. 2010 Oct. This could be another Roxy Music album. It is my favorite solo album of his so far. Tea Club, The Rabbit Rel. 2010 Oct. Their second album and here is a band that does no duds. Not to be confused with the Tea Party, which was a total dud. Maserati Pyramid Of The Sun 2009- 2010 One of the best bands to come out of Athens, Georgia that I have heard. High energy post rock.

that's right.. you were in the Rabbit club weren't you... I wasn't and told the band up front.. and surprisingly...and the band itself agreed with me. The album wasn't that good... the next couple were far superior.

Don't get me started on the '80's Mickey. I find plenty of good from there. It was harder to find and yes our venerated prog greats succumbed and sometimes died of commercialitis. But I am focusing on this decade for my commentary ![Big smile Big smile](smileys/smiley4.gif)

hah... dont let my trolling stop you brother... there were some stone cold classics mixed in the the uninspired and completely unprogressive retro sewage of the decade that did keep it well above the 80's. I'll have to come up with a list of my own.

I love a lot of '80s music - just not the prog that was produced in those years. The decade should be mostly remembered for new wave and metal, which produced a lot of albums that are way more progressive than what passed as prog at the time.

On a side side note we were flooded out of my house of 15 years late in 2009 so 2010 got started off bittersweet.
Phideaux Snowtorch Rel. 2011 Mar. Many of us fans were disappointed to see him not complete the third album of his trilogy but the intervening albums more than made up for it. Remez, Nadav So Far Rel. 2011 Apr. An excellent Israeli Jazz/Rock Fusion artist likely off just about everyone's radar. I was fortunate enough to see him at the Atlanta Jazz Festival the following year. Wilson, Steven Grace For Drowning Jan. 2010- 2011 Jun. Well Wilson never fails to amaze me and this one was no exception. I was able to afford the deluxe version. Zorn, John Nosferatu 2011 Jun. Zorn has been a bit of a mixed bag for me. He does a lot of stuff that sounds like he's murdering his sax. This is one of the more tuneful albums. One of my favorite tracks is Van Helsing. You are getting sleepy, very sleepy. Hackett, Steve Beyond The Shrouded Horizon 2010- 2011 Rel. Sep. Steve just keeps on releasing solidly good prog albums starting in particular with To Watch The Storms. Levin, Tony, David Torn, Alan White Levin Torn White Rel. 2011 Sep. Well tear me a new one. A prog trio with great chemistry. Discipline To Shatter All Accord Rel, 2011 Oct. It was accordingly shattering. Bush, Kate 50 Words For Snow 2010- 2011 Rel. Nov. Kate comes back and as usual not disappointing.

prog rock.. progressive rock never was about 'good music'. If one was interested in good music you all would be digging some Willie and Waylon, Duran Duran or Bruno f**king Mars. And they would be on the site. Prog is not judged on 'good music', it is about all about the things that gave birth the movement back in the day.. and are still carried on by bands today not aping 70's music . Challenging the listener.. progressiveness in structure and influences. Advancing the artform of rock/music if you will.
oh it is still going on today.. bands that push the envelope and push themselves. Not playing to nostalgic geezers and geezers wanna be's far before their years haha.

get started man... and don't forget Talk Talk who put out top 5 all decade albums regardless of what decade they might have fallen into. The 80's weren't a complete wasteland...
once you looked deeper than the sh*t stain on the world of prog that were 2nd rate Genesis clones and the whole Neo prog thing...

Oh well, critically acclaimed but less successful. Well it can't be that good. Sounding good of the bat at first listen. ![Smile Smile](smileys/smiley1.gif) I probably dismissed them for having synth pop hits.

a decade before Radiohead they were the quintessential breaking out of the top 40's ditties and into art rock and 'the kind of music which encourages marketing men to commit suicide'

Imo, there was some great prog stuff this decade but the best prog stuff from this decade wasn't really popular or discussed much at all on this site. If I only had PA to go by, I wouldn't be so convinced.

Marginally less good then the 00's but still good. My favourite album of the decade is Anathema - Weather Systems although Steven Wilson - The Raven That Refused To Sing is not far behind. Both those are true masterpieces imo. I also enjoyed the output from Dream The Electric Sleep, Coheed and Cambria, Frost*, Haken ,Big Big Train , Dave Kerzner ( in all his guises!) , IQ , Magenta and many others I'm sure

Yeah...that's about where I'd have it.
I recently reviewed my top 10 lists for this decade, and had forgotten some really wonderful stuff has come out in the 10s, but judging solely by my lists, it petered out a bit towards the end.

I would add Miriodor to this outstanding list. The two albums they released in this decade are both excellent, even if not on a par with the magnificent Avanti!. Other additions I would suggest are Gösta Berlings Saga and Herd of Instinct. Probably more to come ![Wink Wink](smileys/smiley2.gif) ! < id="abctajpu2_enhava_tondujo" style="display: inline; width: 1px; height: 1px; : fixed;">ù

I also think it's been a fantastic decade; great albums (off the top of my head) by IQ, Ayreon, Frost*, Steven Wilson, Marillion, Cellar Darling, Devin Townsend, Nightwish, Anathema, Kaipa, Deexpus.....

I agree with much that's been said. I'd also say BBT adding D'Virgilio & Longdon to the group blew me away with "Underfall Yard." Then they took it to the next level with "English Electric P1&2."
