Probably the two most loved epics among prog lovers. But which of these do you prefer?
------------- No, I know how to behave in the restaurant now, I don't tear at the meat with my hands. If I've become a man of the world somehow, that's not necessarily to say I'm a worldly man.

Up to a few months ago I would have voted CttE, but I have a new-found greater appreciation for Supper's Ready.

It's neck and neck for me. I'm a bigger fan of Yes over all but I think SR might be slightly better. Heck, a part of it even inspired part of my user name.

Refraining from voting. If its live CttE then it wins. Studio is SR.

Close to the Edge by a fraction. Supper's Ready happens to be one of my favorite tracks as well.

At present the vote is: Close To The Edge - 14, Supper's Ready - 16. I'm actually quite surprised that Supper's Ready is leading against Close To The Edge. I thought for certain that Close To The Edge would win this poll, though I didn't know if it would be by a little or a lot.

I don´t like either song much, but the Second Out live version of Supper's Ready has its moments. Recently I've been listening some Flower Kings and perhaps their abundance of Yes influences will one day make me look more kindly on their classic albums. For now I can only listen to the Yes Album, preferably side one.

I don't like the live version of SR .The Battle section especially is one of the best things about SR but Chester is basically rubbish on it!

Close to the Edge - more virtuosic, impressive musically, stunning Supper's Ready - more touching, mysterious, even greater atmosphere & themes
So it depends on what I need more at the moment. Supper's Ready is my pick for autumn, but ask me again in July.

I decided I'm not going to vote in this. Technically I might prefer Supper's Ready by just a tiny bit(and it might even depend on my mood) but over all I'm more of a Yes fan and would feel like I betrayed them if I voted for it so it balances out here for me. Both are equally great. How about that?

Can't blame you for not leaving a vote here, I think both songs are consensual TOP5 progressive rock compositions of all time.

Recently, the poll Close To The Edge vs Foxtrot has been resurrected, so I resurrect this poll. It is still a tie.

It says I've already voted but I haven't posted. Sorry about that. Probably voted for CTTE which I enjoy more these days than the Genesis epic.

I voted for CTTE but really it could almost go either way. I think for the longest time I would have said Supper's Ready but to be honest I don't like the anticlimatic ending. I think CTTE starts and ends better.

I just broke the tie again. Neither of these are among my personal top side-longs/epics, tbh, but I like both fine enough. CTTE has some great moments, but also doesn't have that many things going on for its length. On the other hand, Supper's Ready has more going on, but it feels a bit thrown together and the separate parts don't really form a whole IMO. At the end of the day, CTTE is better I think, but Yes would improve the side-long format on their next two albums. I wonder how these two and Echoes and Tarkus would compete against each other (I'm sure there's other pairings done in the past but I'm too lazy to look for that now).

It is the eternal battle of Yes vs. Genesis; a staple of this site since before I joined and I guess it will be as long as this site/forum lasts. These are two tracks I really like off two albums that never connected with me on the whole. I like the track "Close to the Edge", but "Supper's Ready" is more meaningful to me.

Musically and compositionally, both are great. What sets "Supper's Ready" apart is the lyrics, which are far better than the droning repetition of "seasons will pass you by, I get up, I get down," over and f*cking over again.
