Subject: WORST pop songs EVER!!!!
Date Posted: February 11 2019 at 18:28
This idea started years ago when a friend and i tried to come up with a list of the absolute most nauseating songs of all time. I lost the list i made but made one on RYM of the ones i could recall.
Just curious what everyone else out there consideres the WORST OF THE WORST.
I have a high tolerance for cheesy pop but some songs are so awful even i can't stand them.
The 70s is one of my favorite eras of music but it also had some of the WORST.
Here's my list. Please drop your turkey bombs here!

What's interesting is that it will vary from person to person despite us all being prog fans-- e.g., I can't stand 'All the Young Dudes' but as far as I can tell, many think it's just fine. Meghan Trainor's 'All About That Bass' is pretty idiotic, Dexy's MRs 'Come on Eileen' I could do without, and even the Fab Four had some real stinkers, among them being my favorite whipping boy :

^ yep, totally subjective. There are many songs i should hate but don't. And you're right, i like "All The Young Dudes" myself and i actually love "Come On Eileen"! There's not a lot i hate but every once in a while...
Just curious as to what others truly hate :)

Believe it or not i actually don't hate the Black Eyed Peas but i know that song wrankles many people's musical sensibilities. I like those awful novelty rap songs like "Baby Got Back."
I'll add the TRAIN song to my list. That is nauseating!

I kind of like really terrible pop music and even the worst 70's pap has some charm or makes me smile (not really nostalgia because i'm not old enough to remember) but whenever I'm exposed to to modern music on the radio I feel physically ill, so there's at least a decade of atrocious pophits I don't know who is by. I'm sure I'd hate Kygo, Drake, The Weeknd or whatever but fortunately I don't know... but here's some annoying songs I do remember:
Color Me Badd - I Wanna Sex You Up
Offspring - Pretty Fly (For a White Guy)
Inner Circle - Sweat (la la la la long)
Smash Mouth - All Star
Chumbawamba - Tubthumper
R. Kelly - I Believe I Can Fly
Vengaboys - We're Going to Ibiza
4 Non Blondes - What's Up

In my honest opinion, it is Rockwells - Sombodys Watching Me,
for the primal reason it relize so much on the characteristic energy and power Michael Jackson in the chorous when in real and rest of the song is a sad excuse of rap, and lame attempt at lame europo, which have been done better ( By Scatmann Joe). Reminds me of a pore soundtrack to a live action Scoobie Doo soundtrack.
Michael Jackson is 96% of the reason the song isbany interesting att all cause it has a killer chorus.

That "I Can Believe I Can Fly" I find so utterly nauseating.
I actually think that William Hung improved on R. Kelly's original on his album Inspiration.

I could put those in the so bad they're good category.
One I might consider, but I wouldn't really get behind, adding is Samwel's "What What (In the Butt)" which was parodied by South Park (it's more of a novelty song that got some internet traction and I wouldn't expect to hear it on the radio).

I used to work as an IT in a company in my hometown in 2016. I am mostly a prog and metal fan, in fact I like almost everything, including pop. However, in the office there used to be (and still might be, cause I left the job) a terrible radio with tons of ads. All day long my colleges used to listen to the cr*ppy radio and I remember some stuff from it. When I seek a job my willing is not to have any radio with commercial music on it. Here are some of the examples of songs which I really could not stand but I used to listen to them every day and I had them in my head, it was utterly terrible.
That repetitive something at 0:34... gosh...
I had this one in my head, especially the part at 1:07... It was utterly terrible.
There is tons of crappy pop music on the radio, and if you are forced to listen to such a station every day and the only musical instruments you hear are some piano and guitar which might have been just computer generated... it is terrible... I am glad I don't work at that place anymore.

I'm sure I can think of better candidates for worst pop song ever, but right now the one that comes to mind is "You're Beautiful" by James Blunt.
Hated everything about that song. The syrupy lyrics, the emasculated voice, the stupid video clip. Hideous tune.

Baby Got Back is a fun song back when rap had a sense of humor before gangsta took over.

I had a similar experience. The department piped in one of the local Top 40/adult contemporary-type radio stations so all day long I got to listen to that crap. If I ever hear Walking In Memphis again, I'll probably throw up.
The only saving grace was Christmas time when they played only Christmas music, which I like.

THe Offspring song is much better as Weird Al Yankovic's "Pretty Fly For a Rabbi."
The rest i either vaguely remember and have deleted from my memory or haven't heard. I'll check them out!

Yeah, i can't stand horrible radio either and it's pretty bad these days. Modern country stations are particularly awful but canned modern pop has reach new lows. I'm sensitive like you. Sometimes bad songs are fun but often they are insipid soul destroyers!

Takin' Care of Business -- Bachman Turner Overdrive.
Everything in that song occurs on the downbeat of every quarter note - with no variation! Every time it comes on the radio, I'm tempted to stand up and start stomping my feet, in place, like some sort of deranged goose-stepping zombie robot (perhaps powered by a BT Overdrive?)

fun fact Both Ray Parker Jr of Ghostbuster song fame and Michael Sembello, composer of the song "Maniac" of Flashdance fame, were part of Stevie Wonders band in the 70s. Which I find is a cool coincidence, both played on integral albums by Stevie of hes classic period.

Very difficult for me as my brain tends not to make a note of songs it doesn't like, and that is a shedload of songs since my childhood in the 60s.
The first time I remember actively disliking a song on the radio was when I was about 8 years old, lying in hospital in London and I had to endure Bridge Over Troubled Water at least twice a day. I still hate that song.
Then in the early 70s I also remember really disliking hearing early Beatles songs. They were just bloody awful.
The early and mid-70s disco period spewed up so much crap it is hard to remember any particular horrors.
Then the 80s....oh dear...the 80s...after the last vestiges of solid synth, new romantics, new wave and post-punk hits had died away in about 82 we were subjected to about 7 years of absolute sh*te! Until indie, dance and techno kicked in round 89-90.
Since the late 90s after Britpop and Indie went stale I simply haven't bothered listening to modern pop or radio pop.
And since the advent of MySpace, Youtube, Spotify, BGT, AGT, Fame Factory, X factor, Idol and so on, the battle has been well and truly lost in that there are now far more crappy pop songs sand crappy bands out there than good ones.

I suppose I could bring up the Japanese-only hits of Alyssa Milano and Jennifer Love Hewitt during their "what shoulkd I be doing?" phase, except that there's a dumb cute charm to that stuff...I like listening to craptastic pop like that sometimes.
For actual "unfun" crap, there's "Thong Song" by Sisqo. It always pops in my head when I think of terrible songs that were huge hits in their time. What a piece of trash.

I take it you're from Sweden? How do you feel about Abba? Great or hate?

And any song that was popular by Nickelback is bad. I can't actually name a song off the top of my head but in the past, If I've heard a song by them and would ask my friends, "Who is this? It's really bad," the answer would be Nickelback.
I know i'm crazy but i kinda like "Barbie Girl." It's a case of it's SOOOO bad that it's good for me.
Nickelback is forgettable but somewhat catchy. Don't quite hate them enough for this list but certainly don't listen to them!

I think songs that are MEANT to be nauseating are called novelties whereas truly horrible music comes from uninspired crap that someone thought was a good idea!
This Gangnam Style isn't horrible, just generic bubblegum electro-pop. At least it's dynamically produced :)

He is considered a very
inspiring example of how someone with a disability can turn his life
around. He turned his stutter into an advantage in his music as scat
singing has a lot of repetition in it. He even points this out in his
debut song.

Didn't know that. Now you made me feel uncomfortable with myself.
But I dislike the song too much to pay attention to the lyrics.

I tend to be tolerant enough to most pop songs when taken on their own but there are still a couple of nauseating ones that come to mind: Avicii - Hey Brother Jason Mraz - I Won't Give Up Carly Rae Jepsen - I Really Like You Thin Lizzy - The Boys Are Back in Town (will probably get some disagreement here) Bastille - Pompeii

Great suggestions. Almost all of these are cringy worthy. I can tolerate the Genesis song though.
So rock songs are OK as long as they were popular. The kind of pop i'm referring to is that the songs were in the top 40 or at least well known at some point before they (hopefully) got forgotten :P
So anything is fair game as long as it charted at one time. Therefore Scorpions, Van Halen or whatever are perfectly fine suggestions.

This one seems to have gone unnoticed. It has the added benefit of the trite video with the stereotypical soulless white girl in the backseat of a car.
And I know it was probably not meant to be a pop song, but it showed up in enough horrible 2000 and zero movies that I think it qualifies. P.O.D.'s "Here comes the boom"
