Hello everybody,
I'd like to ask you which is your favourite band among 10 I choose in a
wide group (I could select hundreds of others groups with the same
characters) that I called unlucky prog bands: for different reasons
infact, even wonderful bands with amazing debuts album did'nt become
famous.
Tell me what you think about!

Okay, Okay!
I voted for Refugee - Lee Jackson and Brian Davison
definitely have to be two of the unluckiest guys in
prog.
First Emerson ditched them in The Nice for ELP and
then Patrick Moraz left Refugee to join Yes (after
making an excellent debut album).
Anyway, welcome to the Archives Magog!

CATAPILLA. Absolutely amazing Canterbury fusion, and Anna Meek's
incredible vocals were punk five years before the fact. But I wonder what
they would have sounded like had her sister Jo (their original singer, later
with JULIAN JAY SAVARIN) remained?

I'd love to take part, but I've never heard of any of these bands. Sorry.

Catapilla and Arzachel; I absolutely agree about the vocals of Anna Meek.
Robert Calvert, sax-player of Catapilla (and not to be confused with
the Hawkwind singer of the same name), later joined Mother Gong

Interesting selection. Out of that bunch it's gotta be Il Balletto for me!

There must be something in my eye. I read "Unlucky"while it should be "Unknown". I do not know any of these bands!!!
Who are they? Why are they unlucky?
I would say Genesis was very unlucky when the talented young Phil Collins joined. Who would kwno that he would lost his love for prog as long with his hair. (That sound like the story of Samson)

Because they produced fantastic debuts that never got the recognition they deserved and they quickly slipped under the radar.
My ultimate example of such a band, though, would be the astounding Gnidrolog.

Some great bands there- the most accessible album there, and my favourite, would have been by Fields, which I really love- far more than those post Graham Field Rare Bird albums. Not sure if Arzachel were all that unlucky, as they'd have later success in Gong, Egg and Hatfield And The North (I find the Arzachel album to be patchy anyway) and Refugee, who also had a modicum of success in The Nice before, and Moraz with Yes. However, in terms of deserving more success, pretty much most of those bands did.

...
...If you like to taste something from these groups, you could
easily find Catapilla "Changes" and maybe Home "The Alchemist" both
very good...The Fields is my favourite but I've never found it on CD

Don't know if they were all "unlucky", but among listed bands I pick
Arzachel. Totally crazy songs, just listen to Metempsychosis. And Steve Hillage is a great guitar player.

Arzachel got my vote and I'm proud of it
