Hey guys. I recently only started getting into prog (well, I have been into it for many years, but because of all it's surrounding genres, I did not realise that it WAS prog!).

I am a fan of acoustic/minimal prog, ballad type songs, so am after some bands who do these well.
Can anyone PLEASE make some reccomended song titles PLEASE, and albums???

CHEERS all,

PROG ON!

Can't think of any, other than accoustic versions of other productions, such as:
  • Pendragon- Accoustically Challenged
  • Yes- Accoustic

Genesis had quite a few acoustic songs in the
Gabriel era (especially on Nursery Cryme). You
could try early Strawbs, from the first album to From
the Witchwood, after that they have more electric
instruments; if you like prog-folk, try Trader Horne,
Amazing Blondel

I forgot Spring, not necessarily acoustic but more in
the ballad vein (if I understand what you mean by
ballad)

You could start by downloading the Amazing Blondel
and Strawbs songs from this site. Try Amazon for the
other bands - otherwise some filesharing
programme (Limewire for instance, you can
download it for free). As for Strawbs, btw, there's a
very cheap compilation you might try

A number of John Wetton solo live albums, released in the late 90's  might supply what you want, but of the music of  King  Crimson and other Wetton -related bands. However, listen before you buy, there are also some stinkers.
