Musicians and/or bands often offer their digital downloads on Bandcamp for "Name Your Price".  How much to you typically pay?

I usually go pretty close to the average price for downloads, e.g. $8-$10 for albums (lasting at least 45 min), half that for EPs, and a buck or two for a single.

I said 8-10 but liking this kind of music as you may know----prices can go way up depending on what you want and how rare pr available it is

It depends. I have bought a number of things in this way that otherwise I wouldn't have bought, just for trying out. In this case I typically pay 2 or 3$. Around 8$ for stuff that I'd have bought anyway.

$8 - $10 most of the time.

Typically zero unless its an artist I know and want to support, most of my zero purchases are purely speculative explorations or research for this place.

I tend to want hard copies. I put in a couple bucks for NYP DDL, more for stuff that blows my mind. However, if I can't use my card and have to jump through all the PayPal hoops, that's usually a deal breaker. Unfortunately quite a few international purchases require PayPal.

As with physical releases, I generally try to pay what the resale value is, or less, and for digital downloads that always happens to be zero.

You’re missing an ‘I have never downloaded’ choice. Actually I ordered an MP3 once from Amazon. I was sent an email with a link from where it could be downloaded. It was late, so I thought I’d download it in the morning. I forgot. I was thinking about it about six months later. I wondered if I could still download it if I were able to dig up the email. It doesn’t matter, though. I have the CD now, which is what I wanted all along.

You probably have a PayPal account. I had a rotten experience with PayPal and will not have an account. External purchases through them are PITA. Particularly international where exchange fees are imposed.

I didn't know zero was an option for any of them. I'm surprised not everyone would chose zero if that's the case. Why spend money if you don't have to?

I only buy physical copies as well unless i really love something and it's only available as a download but that rarely happens.

Because if it's worth listening too, it's worth supporting with a little financial support.

Gee, Tapfret, I find Paypal to be the easiest and safest thing for international purchases.  They automatically translate the price into US dollars, and you avoid having to use your credit card, which really scares me when buying from international sites.  I actually PREFER paypal for all online transactions, domestic or international.

Good luck cancelling a Paypal transaction when something goes wrong.
