I have listened to Pink Floyd for quite some time(I have Meddle DSOTM WYWH and The Wall).  I love their music.  I also really enjoy listening to the bands Coheed & Cambria and Sigur Ros which I believe would be considered prog.  The idea that prog was even a genre of music is new to me.  I'd never heard the term until visiting this site.  Not sure how I got here, just lucky I guess.  But what I'm hoping you guys can help me do is pick out some bands/albums to buy.  Being new to this genre and their being so many bands out there, I just want to be able to seperate the great from the garbage.  Thanks for any advice you can offer in helping me start my prog music collection.

Take a look at the list on the frontpage of the website (the top 100).  That'll give you a good place to start (Yes-CTTE, Genesis-Foxtrot, King Crimson-ITCOTCK...and then just go from there)

Also, though you might want to listen to the free mp3s of those bands first (located on their pages respectively), before you actually buy one of their albums.
