It has to be sci-fi. Surely fantasy has to have a wizard? Also none of the fantasy books I've read have space ships in them.

Sci-Fi.Fantasy is stuff like Tolkien's Hobbit and Rings Trilogy and Terry Brooks Shannara books.

A lot of influence for Lucas' SW universe and look and feel came from 1950's Republic Serials,Errol Flynn movies and old Westerns.I think of SW almost as a sci-fi western with these mystic elements thrown in.

Plan 9 From Outer Space will always win.

"The Attack of The Gaint Blob" is far bettter!!!! It had the cheepest special efect in the history of s-f movies!  The blob attacked a Cafe... And it was actually a photo of a Cafe with pink yogurt or puding beeing gushed over it!!!!

I see what you mean but I was giving an example that I though the topic creator could identify with.Being a sci-fi and fantasy fan I know there is more to fantasy literature than your standard dungeons and dragons and magical swords and epic quest books.

Sure, no offence intended or taken. IMO Star Wars is very much borderline, though.

Well, the whole thing with the force, and Jedi & Sith is a fantasy element ,and a very important one at that.

Still think SW is largely a sc-fi film though.

On a quick side note I think a series of books that offer a fresh take on fantasy are Stephen King's Dark Tower books.A great mishmash of fantasy, western and horror and one of the best "quest" series of books ever written.

Besides being a SW geek I am also a confirmed Tower junkie

sci-fi ... albeit a sort of boy-band version ...

"Death to Utopia! Death to faith! Death to love! Death to hope?" thunders the 20th century. "Surrender, you pathetic dreamer.”

"No" replies the unhumbled optimist "You are only the present."

Fantasy for me. Pretty much fantasy with some sci-fi elements in it but all in all fantasy. It's more philosophical and political than scientific. Plus, it doesn't relate to our global societies, present or futuristic except maybe on a metaphoric level.

It's both for me.
