This thread is not a joke! YoYoing is a legit recreational activity. Anyone else on PA "throw"? I've recently got back into it after not playing for years. Magic makes some excellent throws, I've got a new one (N12) coming in the mail early next week.

How long have you been playing? Are you a responsive or unresponsive player? What are your favorite brands? Bearings? Strings?

Commence the nerdage! Cool

I'm inclined to agree (I turned 30 today), but you'd be surprised how much the industry has blown up since the mid/late 90's. It's not longer all subpar plastic YOMEGA/DUNCAN crap; alloy, baby!

There was a guy on here about 5 years or so ago who would talk about yo-yo-ing and at one time he posted some videos of himself performing tricks.  I don't think he has been around in quite awhile, but maybe via the search function you might be able to find his posts.

I used to love to play with yo yos in the old days.....from age 8 or 9 up until college days.....I used to pick it up for fun now and then even as an adult but don't mess with it anymore.
I used only Duncan Imperials...the plastic colored ones.....I do have a solid well made wood one my wife bought me many years ago but the Duncan's always felt good to me. I had no idea that they eventually did alloy, etc.

The Duncan Imperial is the classic solid axle yoyo; things have switched up quite a bit since then! The Duncan Butterfly Shape pretty much took off, and now we have space age "toys" like the Magic Katana, with gold, concave, 10 ball bearings that allow for sleep times up 5 minutes (I'm not joking, I have a "lower" end Magic yoyo that sleeps for 3 minutes like clockwork):

String tricks are now the thing. Gone are the days of simple looping and walking the dog (you can still do those with classic responsive yoyos like Duncan). I'm really into the Magic brand, and just picked up an N12 (very popular model, less than $20), along with some extra lube, pads, and a set of the gold 10 ball bearings from the above yoyo that I plan on installing on this one:

Awesome, I'll definitely check search!

BUMP

Come on you b*****ds, discuss the highly-niche hobby of throwing a glorified ball bearing on a string with me! LOL Cool

For real though; my skills are improving and I'm thinking of filming a quick clip of me working my magic.

My newest throw (Magic N12 Shark's Honor):
