Hello, Just to explain myself, I listen to music and bands by period, actually I'm into Rush, I listen to Rush nearly all the time and I still have some albums to discover hopefully  but
I wonder which great band I could discover next... I'm looking for a
great old progressive rock band, knowing that I love Yes, Rush,
Genesis, Van Der Graaf Generator, King Crimson, Gentle Giant (not

70s prog eh? how about rare bird or renaisance or even colosseum and nektar ofcourse id go for nektar or perhaps camel? hmm... |

Hum thanks for those advices... I know quite well Renaissance, I like
them, Nektar, I know some albums, I like them too, not taht much, and
Camel, I love Camel  But I absolutely don't know Rare Bird... I'm looking for progressif stuff, epics songs with a lot of keyboards, good lyrics, great guitar solos, big bass playing... Stuff like Rush or Yes... I didn't talk about them but I like them as well, my favorite albums are Tarkus, Brain Salad Surgery and Trilogy  but it was a really good suggestion indeed!

i think procul harum is pretty good also if you like the really early proggish bands also perhaps hatfield and the north or focus is pretty cool..btw you should really check out a band called Kayak with a song called merlin if you like symphonic music there is nothing better!!! And never bands that sound abit like the 70s ones that is good is forexample Spocks beard, IQ and the flower kings |

I know a lot of actual bands who play traditionnal progressive rock
like Transat, Spok's Beard and others but I woul prefer some old
stuffs... Procul Harum is cool, I like it as The Moody Blues but that's

You may like the first few Nektar albums.Prog/Space Rock Also,If you like Rush,check out Pavlov's Dog for David Surkamp's voice.It's similar to Geddy Lee's. A delve into Italian prog is also a good bet.Check out PFM,Banco Del Muteo Soccorso and Le Orme. Happy hunting -------------

If you really like Rush, try 'Tiles'...they have a very retro, old school Rush like feel, even though they are contemporary...start with either Fence The Clear or Presents Of Mind. ------------- Music has always been a matter of energy to me. I'd recomend Dream Theater to anyone. If you're into rush, ease your way into them with stuff form images and wrods first.( pull me under, take the time, metropolis pt. one.) and work youre way fomr there. Do Awake, then scenes fomr a memory. 6 degrees is a must have for prog rockers. ------------- I can strangle a canary in a tin can and it would be really original, but that wouldn't save it from sounding like utter sh*t. -Stone Beard |

Maiden I take it you like Kayak? I've been a fan since the 70's when I got my first record player. Listening to Nostradamus as I write. Superb Anaon - Try Focus - Hambuger Concerto, Moving Waves. If you haven't bought any Yes yet go for the big one - Yessongs. Engineering might not be up to today's standard but the music more than makes up for it. |
