So another prog baritone and ex King Crimson lead singer bites the dust sadly. As well as being one of the best vocalists, John was also a great bassist and good enough to be recruited by Roxy Music just on that alone. You will be missed.. RIP |

It was the work of John Wetton that makes me out his trilogy of albums above the debut album line up of King Crimson. And it was also weird that after all these years, last Friday I ordered the debut album of Asia. Then again, I also remember a reverse of one of his recent albums, acoustic reworkings, with the cruel end line of something along the lines of "He must really need to ask questions about their life if he's happy with this." I hope that journalist is feeling sh*t right now! R.I.P. John Wetton. |

When I was young I used to collect all his albums. I even had WettonManzanera and so on. I really really liked him and then suddenly the love was over. His voice started to irritate me very much. He became the symbol of old men cashing in on the classic rock circuit. But now he's dead, I feel bad for bad mouthing him sometimes. RIP mister Wetton. I'm sorry that he suffered so much with that damned cancer....I'd seen John with LTIA KC, UK and Asia, and he was always one of the best bass players who could play bass and sing lead vocals simultaneously. He was a major influence on my own bass playing, and I am saddened to learn of his passing, but at least his struggle is over. RIP, John... Here he is with Bob Fripp at Christmastime, 2016....I'm so glad that Bob was supportive of him throughout his life and career.  |

Well, that stinks. His bass work with King Crimson was one of the best in rock - right up there with John Entwistle and Chris Squire. R.I.P. ------------- He looks at this world and wants it all... so he strikes, like Thunderball! |

Oh dear... I knew he was seriously ill and I kind of expected this but... not so soon. He was my favourite King Crimson vocalist, not to mention his bass playing. What a loss |

| R.I.P., Wetton was always my favorite part of King Crimson. That's the reason why Starless and Bible Black will always be my favorite album from them, he really shines on that record. |

Sad news indeed. As a much younger man (talking both me and John), John was front and center of my favorite incarnation of my favor band, King Crimson. To my way of thinking, John was one half of one of the greatest, if not the greatest, rock rhythm sections ever. And, his voice fit the music perfectly. My first KC album was a Young Person's Guide to KC. I think this came out 1975ish. I was completely taken aback by the music, but, in particular by the song Starless. When I tried to purchase the album containing this masterpiece, I - as I am sure many others did - picked up the album Starless and Bible Black, which of course doesn't have the song Starless. But, as you did in those times, if you invested your hard earned cash in an album, you invested time in getting to know the album. Much of SBB eluded me for quite a while, but as you did in those days, you kept plugging away at it. Today, I think SBB is a masterpiece, and is by far and away my favorite album of KC. Thank you John for the great music that was a fundamental component to the soundtrack of my life, and a fundamental component of making me who I am today. ------------- He neither drank, smoked, nor rode a bicycle. Living frugally, saving his money, he died early, surrounded by greedy relatives. It was a great lesson to me -- John Barrymore |

DAMN !!! I had seen the posting on Carl Palmer's site a week or so ago about him missing the Cruise to the Edge gig. I knew bad news would follow. I met him briefly during the initial ASIA tour way back and he was a humble and gracious man.  ------------- Thank you for supporting independently produced music |

Oof! I know last year was bad, but his death combined with Jaki's make this year hit harder. Can't say it's a shock though...that cancer is awful. RIP to one of the best (and my favorite of the classic guys). Those live recordings from the 70s really show his power and grandeur. Time for another trip through the Starless box. RIP John Wetton. Your music, your talent, and your spirit will live on through your music and our appriciation of it. Though your death has brought tears to my eyes, I can't help but be happy that your suffering has ended. Keep rocking out up there in the great gig in the sky. I remember hearing a live version of 'Part of the Load' by 'Family' when John was with them; that deep rumbling, rolling bass riff just propelled the whole thing in a way i hadnt heard before- that sound was developed when he joined Crimson.. plus that voice!.. Another legend takes his bow and takes his leave. RIP and thanks for the legacy you leave behind. ------------- |

As one of the older crowd, I'm well aware that we "all gotta go sometime". But what really disturbs me is seeing how many music artists that I have revered succumbing to the horrible and emaciating disease of cancer. Bert Jansch, Chris Squire, David Bowie, and now John Wetton. A poor reward for people who gave so much pleasure to others. RIP John. I'll brake my 30 year oath and play "Heat of the Moment" in tribute to you.

Good grief, RIP John and thanks for the music! Damned cancer.... Just mind boggling that these losses keep coming in such a small time span. Been away from listening to music over the past couple of weeks, so it looks like I will be having a marathon mix of King Crimson/Asia for John, Can for Jaki, Allman Brothers for Butch Trucks, and Mott the Hoople for Overend Watts. -------------

Read the news online from a New York Times article. I am gratified, however, that they included a clip of Red rather than Heat of the Moment. A musician of great versatility and talent, running the gamut between King Crimson and Asia, I have listened to him many times and in many different moods. We proggers were worried about this last year, and it has sadly come to pass. RIP, great singer and bassist, and an influence on many prog acts in both realms. Probably my favourite piece sung by him is "The Night Watch", with "Exiles" and "Starless" not far behind. I read about this on the Renaissance facebook page. He sang duet with Annie Haslam on "Blood Silver Like Moonlight" from the last Renaissance album

Never bought an album specifically because John Wetton played on it. But I listened to some albums last night specifically because he played on them. I have to say I have taking his presence and talent for granted.
