Thanks in advance  as  I'm trying to take a short cut here to find some interesting new music. In rough order of preference i like

Yes    Rush   Hackett Genesis,  Porcupine Tree (not Dead -boring- Wing)   Mars Volta

Pendragon  The Flower kings The IQ tracks in the archive    Some Pink Floyd(dark side)   Karnataka  Elp   70's Tull  some of Snow by Spocks Beard

The archive tracks from Collage Galleon and Galahad and landberk.

I struggle with Dream Theatre, Pain of Salvation and generally that metalish stuff with harsh vocals.

Am I missing anything?

Yes. Gentle Giant, King Crimson and Van Der Graaf Generator. It's ESSENTIAL that you try them.

From GG get In a Glass House

From King Crimson get Lark's Tongues in Aspic or Red

From VDGG get Godbluff

try some lighter Dreamtheater stuff to ease yourself into it.Images and words is a must , and disc two of six degrees of innerturbulence is classic org rock.Very symphonic and hard prog rock at the same time. its brilliant.I'd try that.

and king crimson is a fun one to get into
