Define best. Andres Segovia introduced the guitar as a lead instrument. Jimi Hendrix influenced every rock guitarist after him.Mclaughlin beautifully seemed together rock and jazz styles. There are several people but it depends on genre and what you think of as best. ------------- I'll see you on the Darkside of the moon... |

Hendrix is an exquisite guitarist, but I believe his is a bit o'errated. The best guitarist, in my opinion, is Andres Segovia with honorable mentions going to Holdsworth and Fripp. ------------- And I am not frightened of dying, any time will do, I don't mind. Mc Laughlin - well he's my favourite. For influence though I suppose it must be Hendrix. Steve Howe should be included on the list though. And Steve Vai I guess if technique over creativity is your bag.... ...sorry Vai fans but I blew hard earned cash on one of his albums recently... Suprised Fripp hasn't yet got a vote. |

I agree that Segovia was brilliant.Same goes for Holdsworth and Fripp. But they are very good technically,Hendrix was an innovator. I am not a guitarist,just a dumb drummer,but that's my opinion. ------------- |

(Not in any particular order) Hendrix Clapton Page Santana Hackett Gilmour I don't think there isn't a bad guitarist, it just depends on your taste. Also, don't forget the hired guitarists for such things as The Alan Parsons Project and the rock opera Jesus Christ Superstar. They may not be influential, but man, they certain can play. One more thing. Support your local guitarists.
