I know there are some extreme metal fans on this board, and i also know that there is yet to be a topic about this fantastic band. I think they deserve it. I'm not the only Emperor fan surely.

Their first two albums - "In The Nightside Eclipse" and "Anthems To The Welkin At Dusk" - are masterpieces! Even though nowadays i'm listening to much less metal than i used to (it used to be my main, if not only, source of music) i still love Emperor.
The last two albums - "IX Equilibrium" and "Prometheus: The Discipline of Fire and Demise" - have a couple of gems on but are over-all much less to my liking than Nightside and Anthems.

This is as good as black metal gets guys. For any that may be interested in checking them out; a word of warning... i do not suggest starting with the either of the first couple of albums and certainly not Wrath of the Tyrant (demo) unless you are already somewhat accustomed to extreme metal, as the production is very raw and almost inaudible with some headphones/speakers i'm sure. Not only that but the music itself is very harsh and unforgiving.
The latter two albums (they only did 4), while in a different style than the first two, are more friendly for first time listeners. The music isn't quite as ferocious and evil sounding, instead it feels more solid and even a bit more complex, especially Prometheus.

Totally agree.  Emperor are fantastic!   I love their energy and mayhem, as well as their grandeur and epic vision.     All of their albums are great, particularly their last two.   IX Equilibrium is extemely thrashy and powerful, and Prometheus is complex and original.      I'm sure many fans of prog rock would enjoy this band.

"In the Nightside Eclipse" and "Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk" are absolutely fantastic! Masterpieces of black metal. I haven't checked their later albums yet tho. Oh and by the way, is Faust out of prison yet?

Yep Faust was released a year or so ago i believe. He joined Dissection briefly but left because he didn't like the satanic theme or something. Aparantly he's a changed man.

I believe he was also going to be involved in a project with a couple of other people (including Zamoth/Samoth from Emperor) but that never materialised.

Emperor fantastic? True, true

My favoriute albums are: Anthems and Prometheus. In The Nightside Eclipse is quite good but the sound quallity is sh*tty.

Oh, BTW: Ihsahn mentioned that he will relase an album with some exterme music so if you like the late Emperor works watch the net for news

I don't think so.

Sometimes in black metal the sound quality is deliberately very garage-like. E.g. Ulver's Nattens Madrigal, the sound is like that to give the album a raw and primitive atmosphere.

Yeah I know that dirty "garage" sound is suppose to give a dark, gloomy, true, grim & necro atmosphere but it doesn`t mean I have to like it. I love clear productions.
