My list would go: 1.HEMISPHERES 2.Permanent Waves 3.A Farewell to Kings 4.Moving Pictures(for which I always find that is the much more praised album than it deserves) 5.2112.

1. RUSH 2. Caress 3. Perm Waves 4. Moving Pics 5. Fly By Night HM. 2112 and Grace Under Pressure Some may scoff at this but my use for Rush at this point is not "proggiest" but "asskickness". These are the albums that most kick mine. It's also a snapshot only as I find the order of these changes over time. ------------- ...that moment you realize you like "Mob Rules" better than "Heaven and Hell" |

I am including a live album because I am not much into live albums, but I listen to Exit...Stage Left as much as any studio album. If I remove the live album, I would add either Caress of Steel, Permanent Waves, Moving Pictures, or Grace Under Pressure. 1) Hemispheres 2) A Farewell to Kings 3) Exit...Stage Left 4) 2112 5) Fly by Night |

At this point, after being a Rush fan for 35+ years, any top 5 list (I'm gonna do a top 7 list because I can't stop at 5) for me has to be made up of what I still listen to on a consistent basis. Certain records like 2112, Fly By Night, and Roll The Bones, just to name a few, don't get that much play anymore. The following ones do and represent my favorite Rush albums. These are the discs that I will spin and listen to in their entirety. 1 - Hemispheres 2 - A Farewell To Kings 3 - Power Windows 4 - Caress Of Steel 5 - Permanent Waves 6 - Hold Your Fire 7 - Presto After that comes albums that I still listen to fairly often but usually skip certain songs. Moving Pictures Signals Test For Echo Counterparts All the other studio albums fall into the "only listen to them when the mood strikes me" category I rarely listen to the live albums. |

Maybe it's just the timing, since Signals came out at the time I was reaching the right age to be able to appreciate it. But that album has always been one of my favorites. I also kinda like Vapor Trails. Other than that, I guess it would be usual suspects. |

I'm with you on Exit...Stage Left. One of my first Rush albums and still one of my faves just for the sheer variety of tunes and the extra emotional punch the group tends to deliver in a live setting. My top-5 albums... 1. Exit...Stage Left 2. Permanent Waves 3. Moving Pictures 4. Permanent Waves A Farewell To Kings Hemispheres 2112 Grace Under Pressure bubbling under and waiting to replace 2112 is Counterparts (she's got a few). And Signals about which I changed my tune (from zero to near hero and even got the t shirt). And of course Moving Pictures as a result of the recent on-site hype otherwise I would have forgotten all about it. NB - I take it live albums are not part of the top 5 because if they are.... then we are in serious problems here. I've lots but not yet all live Rush. For rockin' Rush it's the first live record, for the prog Rush it's Exit Stage Left. |

I had up until this point only read about Rush in some metal magazine and never heard any of their music. I bought the album blindly in a record store in Cape Town (in terms of metal and hard rock during that time in South Africa you bought whatever was in the shop as there was not much to choose from; that record was the only thing by Rush in the store). This was my introduction to Rush and it took several years until I got my hands on other Rush albums. Somehow that first love remains my favourtite after all those years (and the reason why I prefer the keyboard/synth heavy Rush albums) ------------- Don't Bore Us, Get To The Chorus |

I feel the same, regarding Exit stage..left. That was the first Rush album I heard and remains one of my favourite live albums of all time.
