I don't think there is a bad song on the album. It is a concept album and each piece is part of the whole. No vote.

I'm not a huge fan of any of the songs on this album (except maybe Any Colour You Like), but I'd say On The Run is the least interesting.

The Great Gig in the Sky, the only bad song on the album. Those awful soul vocals ruin it.

Why are there so many votes for Money, it's a classic! Shocked

What? Money is one of the best Floyd songs; 7/4 sig and amazing, dynamic and long Gilmour solo. Speak To Me works great as an intro, builds up the tension very well. On The Run it is! Wright didn't even play it at that pace and... well, the sound (effects) of it are minimal compared to what he did in Welcome To The Machine.

It must be "On the Run"... as part of the album it works well and I wouldn't take it out, but individually it does nothing. Close would be "Money"... I can enjoy it if I listen to it, but it's really not my cup of tea.

No vote here. I never liked this album too much, for some reason it never worked for me. But on the other side I agree it's concept work and take one song out of it is not possible. If so then On The Run isn't proper song, it's collection of sound effects... but in that place of the album it fits well.

Any colour is boring. Starts off ok but just drags on when the guitar comes in. Great gig is annoying and almost as weak to listen too. Got bored of money and brain damage pretty quickly too

Another album that I see as a unit, not a song-by-song experience. To me, each piece is essencial to the whole product, so I don't really have a favorite or a "I don't like" part of it.

I didn't put Speak to Me under consideration here. It's just an intro and, if I'm not mistaken, it is merged with Breathe as one track on some issues of the album.

Any Colour You Like it is then.

Floyd were a pretty limited band. Not overly talented composers or musicians. They tried the prog thing from 73-77. They got it right with animals. Took 3 attempts from dark side, wish and animals. They improved a bit each album. But they really peaked with medal and obscured as a band playing what they do best. But animals is my fave

I heard that they got a bunch of their friends together to just say random things for the album but most of them tried to be clever about it, which did not work out.  Only this one couple who did not try to be clever, who merely talked, made it to the recording.

I find Money winning this thing puzzling. Sure, it's more rock than prog, but what a zippy respite from what's predominately a somber affair.

No idea what's wrong with Money. Nice riff and a groove in there too ... is that it? Not nice static on the beat stuff but this funky thing?

Took me a while to like Gig In The Sky. A shrieking female vocal was too much for me. Apparently the idea was an orgasm over the death theme - it was originally the Mortality Sequence. But I suppose it fits in the album; would not be my choice of lead though.

The Violent Sequence aka Us And Them used to really try my patience. Rog got his lyrics absolutely spot on, not a word wasted or out of place. But it was so s-l-o-w it dragged for me. Were it not for the nice symphonic arrangement I'd think less of it.

I think isolating tracks does weaken perceptions of them. A track over heard - heard too much does not make it a lesser piece...

The sum is greater than its parts and they did well by making a prog album actually accessible to the public. Which, just in case I am not clear - is a good thing. It may mean a band is no longer "yours" but it never was in the first place. Bit like Metallica's black album being given a good sound with listenable tunes. Thrash metal heads were horrified. I liked it; reminded me of the Yardbirds. LOL

Back to the Dark Side. It is loaded with a lot of variety of sounds, pieces and has a beginning. middle and end. It is cohesive, makes sense and thoroughly fine.

Veto.

Surely the ungrooviest groove on this side of Play That Funky Music White Boy - and Dave Gilmour delivers a career low gruffy vocal performance. Remove the (cool) cash register sample and there's nothing but a pub rock stomper topped with an atrocious saxophone & generic guitar solo left. Its funkiness is related to funk in the same sense Blues Hammer is related to blues.

Sorry, you asked and I've always loathed it.

I did ask. Yes. Oh well, groove is where you find it and how you find it - I don't equate Floyd to Wilson Pickett for example. DG - for some reason I do not know, actually re-recorded it for inclusion on the Dance songs elpee. It wasn't noticeably different.

And if you don't like Play That Funky Music then have a listen to the rest of their... efforts. You'll be begging for forgiveness after that lot. Just once I did a few other tracks - curiosity. Never again.

To me itīs little hard to understand reason of these kind of threads. In progforum you have to choose bad track from some classic prog album. Of course there exists bad tracks also in classic prog albums, but still. And really the result is in this thread that Money is leading. I have of course heard it really many times and really not listening the whole album often these days, but canīt ever say Money is the worst track in Dark Side (or any other).

But of course, in future I donīt have to even open these kind of threads.

Anyone notice Gilmour (Any Colour You Like) playing the riff from "Jungle Fever"? (he does it twice).
