*Taal- Mister Green 8/10, though I prefer Skymind.

*Hôyry-Köne- Huono Parturi 9/10

*Ruins- Symphonica 10/10 - Their best.

*Captain Beefheart- Trout Mask Replica 5/10 - Why oh why can I not get into this album?

Check them out man, although many of them you will not be certainly your cup of tea. I love Avant-Prog, and Avant-Everything. Many of the albums on my list you're not familiar with are like Avant-Metal or Avant-Prog Metal... But you know, as everything Avant-garde, it is really challenging and extremely recommended.

Please start with Italian Jazz-Avant-Metal band, Ephel Duath.

Sleepytime Gorilla Museum (i think you already know this one)

Anomaly (Holland) (avant-prog fusion metal)

Carnival In Coal (Zappa, Mr. Bungle and Death Metal in a blender)

Nope, but some do and they're an immediate turnoff for me.

Oh damn, someone mentioned Solefald

I think their 2nd album Neonism is their best work. It's defintely a captivating album, and not your typical metal album, if it is metal? It does have some black metal influences but if you want to hear something different, listen to it!

I've only heard "In Harmonia Universali" but it's AWESOME! One of the best prog-metal albums I've heard. It's not vrey heavy, more on the Prog side of prog-metal.
