I was born in 1979... so actually there wasn't so much great stuff released that year... at least not that I have found yet. Many good songs... though perhaps not as much as on other years. I guess the only whole album I know I can say is great is The Wall, and indeed I love it... but compared to the few previous albums it's a let-down.

^ Perhaps. And I know you love certain Neo-Prog bands. Nothing wrong with that AT ALL. I hope you admire Christina and Rob (and I think you do.......) But Dylan, I CANNOT STAND. Even covers of his songs are superior - especially The Nice things. Obviously he could write a song which lends itself to greater things, but his mindset was that of a dumbass stoner...... Apologies, I used to be one of those...........

"Fairy Tales" by Mother Gong is a great album from 1979. Unfortunately there is a flaw in the YouTube version of the longest track "Wassilissa" a certain section appears twice while another is left out.
I would mention "Phallus Dei" by Amon Düül 2 as an album that came out the year I was born.

other albums worth mentioning would have been Procol Harum's "Shine on Brightly", Iron Butterfly's "In-a-gadda-da-vida", Pink Floyd's "A Saucerful of Secrets", the Grateful Dead's "Anthem of the Sun" (another full-fledged prog album), Jimi Hendrix's "Electric Ladyland" or Steppenwolf's first self-titled album

Interesting choice, in that it is general,y regarded as the weakest of all Yes studio releases.
I would suggest a trip to the Prog Archives top albums of that year to expand your horizons a bit. Simply go to too albums of 2015 on the homepage, then use the filter to choose 1997. You will see classics from Radiohead, IQ, Marillion, The Flower Kings, Peter Hamill, to name but a few. All of them are vastly superior to what was supposed to be a Chris Squire and Billy Sherwood collaboration, but ended being a springboard for renewed Yes activity, and was, in truth, extremely poor.
Do you have any other Yes albums?

Lol "19 year old enthusiast" It was honestly the first 1997 prog album I thought of. Not one of my favorites by any means. In order for me to actually have a "choice" of a prog album, I would have to be older. I've never really listened to much "prog" past the 70s though Dream Theater is okay.

I am still thinking 1971 was better year in prog and music commonly, but my birthyear was also quite a year.

Hi,
1950
Hard to list "progressive" anything here, but here's a short list of stuff. The order is so-so, but Les paul is definitely one of the biggies that influenced music with his instrument, probably more than the others. Toscanini's version of the Tchaikovsky's 6th Symphony always seem to find itself ranked as one of the great recordings of classical music, and the definitive version of that Symphony.
Les Paul Charlie Parker Ella Fitsgerald Toscanini (Tchaikovsky 6th Symphony) Woody Guthrie Pete Seeger Edith Piaf Nat King Cole Stan Kenton Billie Holiday Benny Goodman

Please Please Me - first Beatles album Freewheelin' Bob Dylan - first PROPER Bob Dylan album
Even if there were more to choose from, I'd probably still pick 'Freewheelin'. I think Dylan has only had one truly great album in the past 50 years, but that doesn't lessen what he achieved between 63 and 66.

The only ones that I would go for, is Cliff Richard and also The Shadows... Though there were some great singles or hits around when I was born.
