To answer any confusion, Nintendogs is basically a Tamagochi for the Nintendo DS, where you raise a dog.

MO:

Welsh Corgis are the best!

If i had a DS id pick one up, but im happy with the gameboy advanced i purchased years ago. I only use it to entertain myself while im on the toilet anyways . Mario Golf is quite fun played in small segments!

It's like a Tamagotchi, but infinitely more realistic/interactive...  you do the whole thing with touchscreen/microphone, it's got a ton of depth.

Actually, it was original intended for people in Japan who work too much to have time to take care of a real dog...  and I don't know *too* many businessmen under the age of twelve.  It became a huge hit, selling millions over a month or so, so they translated it to English.

Damn, it's a good thing I'm not so insecure that I have to put a label on everything and only allow myself to enjoy what's clearly fitting for someone of my age and gender.  Funny, my female roommate really likes it too, more than I do, and a 20-year-old friend from Sweden gave me $50US to send him a copy since Europe doesn't get it for another month or two.  We must all wish we were 9-year-old girls on the inside!

At least pick a game with some redeeming value...  gameplay > all when it comes to games, whether it's in the form of the new Zelda title, Contra for NES, or perhaps a silly, cute dog simulator with realistic behavior.

It's been out for 3 days, and considering the way it's set up, you can even begin to explore what it has to offer in in a mere day or three.  *shakes his head sadly*  Goodbye to you.

I'm not as much as a gamer as I once was...  I'm doing well if I get 4-5 hours of playtime in a week.    I'm into Nintendo's stuff, but that's cuz of my age...  when I first got into gaming, Nintendo was the only worthwhile system in town.  Years later, the Genesis hit, though it didn't appeal to me, and while the Playstation was a great system, the PS2 has a severe lack of good games...  not that the Cube had too many either, but handheld gaming's where it's at for me now, it's much more like the stuff I grew up with, gameplaywise, but with better graphics.

Well yes, there's the Metal Gear Solid games, Prince Of Persia stuff, ICO, and the unforgettable Silent Hill 2.    I just muchly prefer the PS1 classics:  Xenogears, Silent Hill, Chrono Cross, Final Fantasy Tactics, Lunar 1/2, Vagrant Story, THPS 1, Castlevania: Symphony Of The Night, and the original Metal Gear Solid, among others...

Those were great games, I just played through Symphony of the Night again not too long ago. Hands down though the best system for games was the Super Nintendo, with Donkey Kong Country, Chrono Trigger, FFIV - FFVI, ect.

No kidding!  SNES is my favorite system of all time, which is why I'm into the GBA/DS stuff (it's like the SNES era all over again...  hardware of the GBA is comprable to a more powerful SNES, and developers see that...  DS is like the N64's hardware, but with SNES-style development).

Ah, the memories...  the games you mentioned, as well as Contra III, Zelda III, Castlevania IV, Tales Of Phantasia, Mario World, Mario Kart, SUPER METROID, Secret Of Mana, hell...  even Mario RPG was good.

Was that not THE most awesome NES RPG?  Aside from FF II and III (J), which didn't hit stateside, and Mother, which didn't either (though it was going to), Dragon Warrior IV was just...  excellent.

It did, the chapter system was much more innovative than the class system FF had, but FFIV surpassed it, and so did Chrono Trigger (my all time favorite RPG)

I've been playing GTA: San Andreas A LOT lately, and.. the game is perfect, everything I expected and a lot more. But the missions are too easy! There are only a few of those missions that REALLY drive you mad.

I'm an Xbox & PC gamer but I've been thinking of picking up a PS2 or GC for all those classics that didn't get ported and are now cheap. It's hard to call myself an RPG fan when I've never owned any of the Final Fantasy titles.

I have 7 100% games in GTA San Andreas. Some of the missions were a breeze, some were a pain in the butt**coughSupplyLinescough**.I just went through a long long period where I played nothing but GTA 3,VC and SA.

I didn't experience any major game glitches, but the draw distance was a pain sometimes.I think Rockstar squeezed everything they could out of the PS2.

I am anxiously awaiting GTA:Liberty City Stories which comes out on the PSP soon.

Just got The Incredible Hulk Ultimate Destruction and it is hands down the best super hero game I have played, slightly better than Spider-Man 2.One of things I love about it and SPM2 are that they are free roaming like GTA.And the city in the Hulk game is like 3 times bigger than New York city in SPM2.

My 30s are turning out to be a lot like my pre-teens...lots of video games, sci-fi, and prog. Thanks to BBC America, I'm even back to Monty Python now.

I like Xenogears and Final Fantasy VI a tad more than CT.

Actually, I'm replaying CT right now (on an emulator, sue me) and I forgot how awesome it is.  I would play it on my SNES (which is somewhere in the basement, dusty as anything I bet), if only it hadn't broke some time ago.

Well, to be on topic, I don't have a DS so I won't be getting Nintendogs.  I did play the demo at Wal-Mart a few days ago and it surprised me, I thought it wouldn't be that great but it was impressive.  I'm thinking of picking up a DS sometime soon, only I'm broke.

I'd venture to say that the same crowd that's not afraid to listen to prog even though it's not the cool thing is also not afraid to play the games they like, even if they aren't the cool thing.  The same crowd who were playing RPGs pre-FF7, or survival horror pre-Resident Evil (anyone remember Sweet Home?)

Fable was an awesome game, only I beat it in less than 10 hours on my first playthrough.  If they could have made it at least 20 hours, it would have been so much better.

I haven't played any of the RE games, but I can't imagine how they could beat Silent Hill 2...that game was existentially terrifying. Great music, too.

Utter blasphemy!  Survival horror is a genre of psychology, not cheap thrills

Survival horror update: Call of Cthulhu comes out Sept. 1st...looks like it might be worth checking out. Bethesda is golden in my book for Morrowind, and I'm a huge Lovecraft fan. At worst, it's gotta be better than Cold Fear.

I am going to get Nintendo's new console, the Revolution, just so I can play The Legend of Zelda:The Twilight Princess.Have you seen any gameplay movies of it?It looks awesome.

Not a huge gamer myself.  I don't have a console, because it's very seldom that I find a game I actually like.  I'm looking forward to Fable: The Lost Chapters coming out for PC, though.  Fable was such an awesome game, and the new version is going to be longer!

Oh, and I've just gotten into the Myst games.  I recently beat the first one, though I rushed through it and didn't take much time to examine the scenery.  I just wanted to get to Riven, which is where I am now.  The visuals are quite impressive, even today!

Oh, and I really like DOS games!  The Hichhiker's Guide to the Galaxy game got me into them, and I'm playing Zork now.  Great game.  Those text games can be really eerie if you have a good imagination!

I used to play a DOS game on the Commodore 64 way back when called Dracula that was very very good.

One thing that turned me off about GC was the controls , the only thing worse than a gamecube controller is a XBOX controller (it feels like a f**king canned ham), but I always had a blast with Super Smash Brothers Melee and WindWaker.

I'm waiting until fall when RE4 comes out on PS2, I love my PS2, best games out of the 3 newest consoles, best controller, and compatability with PS1 games (I could never abandon FF7-9 and such).

The new Zelda will be, in fact, released for the Gamecube:
http://www.gamespot.com/gamecube/action/thelegendofzelda/index.html?q=Zelda - http://www.gamespot.com/gamecube/action/thelegendofzelda/ind ex.html?q=Zelda
It's definately going to kick alot of ass. I perfer it greatly to the cell shaded Link we encountered in Windwaker.

If any of you haven't seen screenshots of MGS4 for the PS3, do yourself a favor and find them, they're amazing, though I know I definately cannot afford a PS3 when they come out, so I am sad.

zelda was supposed to come out before the end of this year (before the revolution would even have a chance of coming out) but it got delayed to around April. i still doubt it will go on to the revolution.

i've played a lot of those "run around and kill innocent things" games like San Andreas, and i'm done with them, though it is fun watching media watchdogs get riled up over them (i'm nearly 17 and haven't killed a cop in my entire life. i'm so odd)

but what made me turn around was halo 2 on xbox live. some people take that game so f**king seriously you wouldn't want to know.

that's why i got a cube. i just want to get back to having fun.

I haven't really dismissed the GC.I have 2 children that are gamers and me and my wife are hard core gamers,so we have 2 GC's,2 PS2's and an XBOX,in addition to 2 GBColor,2 GB Advances and 2 DS's and 1 PSP.

Nintendo wore thin with me because most of their titles are geared towards children, and they are the last to do everything. They stuck with cartridge games way too long, the GC has no hard drive,no backwards compatibility,no dvd player.

Their handheld units used to really get on my nerves just because of the simple fact that the screen wasn't backlit.Genesis' Gamegear had a backlit screen, but I think Nintendo intentionally doesn't put that kind of technology into their units so you have to buy the peripherals(for example,a light that shines over the screen, which SUCKED.

I think the best console, with the best controller and largest catalogue is the PS2.

And honestly,I am a huge Star Wars nut and only got an XBOX so I could play Knights of the Old Republic.

I don't think the XBOX's controller is the worst, that honor goes to the Game Cube controller.I just prefer the PS2's controller. For me personally, the XBOX's controller is a little bigger and bulkier, and I don't like the offset dual analog joy sticks with the D pad in the middle. My hands just feel really comfortable holding the PS2 controller and the configuration of all the buttons, joy sticks,d-pad,and shoulder buttons really suits me.

^ I just picked up an Xbox controller S the other day...I've been trudging along with the original for a long time, and the S is smaller and much more comfortable. The right analog stick now feels a little bit out-of-place to me, but in a better way than the old one (if that makes sense).

Anyone ever use an X-arcade controller? Those things are monsters.
