What are your thoughts on this since I can't find anyone else on the Internet talking about it. IMHO, there will be too many excuses for these SJWs who will be triggered to the point that these "SafeSpaces" (yes, they're a part of this) will be too big to count. Okay, I get it's all about "THINK OF TEH CHILDRENZ" and all of that, and that's fine and all. BUT, that's the thing, and it's just an excuse to push their rather authoritarian agenda for something that was ALREADY FINE from years before. Corporatocracy at its finest. Oh yeah, and they seriously never heard of the PMCA and how that worked out. To the OP: I don't see what your problem with this is? It's to improve safety for young people at events. There was a sexual assault at a previous event. That's probably why this program has been launched.

Among the worst enemys of reason is over-pedagical concern and agendas were everything is so thougt out, spontanity is left out of the window My theory is that pedagoy is like musicality and sence of humor, all are grounded on personality and development and social interaction and adapting skills, also when lucky one discovers tallent, either in music, comedic deliviry and pedagogical skill  you dont force pedagogy, you trinkles it and tease it.-------------

Like I said, I understand the sentiment behind this policy, but I just feel like it will hurt them more than otherwise, especially including "safe spaces" (I mean you seriously have got to be kidding me. Safe spaces???? REALLY?!?!?!). There's also the fear of "liability" and they're trying to avoid any lawsuit dealing with these kinds of issues. Plus, there will be those who would probably get very tired of these background checks (you know, like in the airports), not to mention it not being able to work on non-US guests. Volunteers and Artist Alley members also won't be able to pay for them to. So yeah, it will hurt AX in the long run. P.S. What's the story of that assault all about? Well, I agree that convention organizers are probably doing this to avoid legal repercussions (rather than a genuine concern for attendees). I would guess that the possibility of a lawsuit(s) is very high if these criminal incidents and resulting media coverage continue to occur. And U.S. lawsuits of this kind are no joke. So from the organizer's point of view, losing some attendees because of strict regulations is better than the possibility of getting dragged through court. There have been several sexual assaults and violent assaults that got a lot of media coverage. One was a Comic Con in 2014 I think. Another was Aki-Con in 2013. There's been other incidents too. In some cases, the offenders had prior criminal records. So that's probably why they now want to do background checks.
