I love the debut!

He is a very good guitarist, though I'm not sure if he is underrated.

^Yes he did...started on Dr Dream in 74 and played with Ayers for many years after that.
I also liked the early Patto albums and Timebox too.

I used to have the Dr Dream album in the late-90's. It was quite a knackered vinyl copy with a worn-out cover. It just fell by the wayside and I haven't seen a copy since. Dang, I remember it being really good, maybe Kevin's most PROG album. I wasn't aware that Halsall was from Patto. Heard the name, but not the music.

And of course, Boxer, who along with Mike Patto, featured ex VDGG member Keith Ellis, ex Crimson and bad company bassist Boz Burrell and Streetwalker's Bobby Tench amongst their members. I guess more rocky and goodtime and a bit less proggy but 'below the belt' is a cracking lp..

Found him from listening to Kevin Ayers' stuff. Patto is definitely worth a listen fo sho'

Underrated is a relevant term. To the average home listener at the time who had never read or heard of his name before, sure he is underrated. Anyone working within the industry at or near the time would not have to same perspective. Maybe the best term that comes to my mind for Ollie is "A lost gem" or "Forgotten treasure"... but that just may be my perspective

Of course Ollie had some involvement in Eric Idle's the Rutles!! I'm sure (but could be wrong) that he played (or stood in) in one of Roy Harper's bands.. Trigger or Black Sheep..
Andy Partridge of XTC is a big Patto fan too!

Absolutely agree. Timebox was also a great band, the forerunner of Patto, though Mike was a very welcome addition. And what about the vibes?!!!! Great sound.
