I'd say the title speaks for itself.
I say yes. Only for Symbolic-onward.

I love them, every Death album since '91 is a masterpiece, but not prog.

Hmm, tough one. I like 'em, and listen to "Live in LA" at least once a week, but I don't think that they're progressive enough. I mean, they have certain proggish tendancies, like unusual scales, time signatures and whatnot, but they're not quite prog. I would have loved to hear them incorporate more of a classical influence in their music, then I would vote 'em prog for sure! Death shredding out classical music at breakneck tempos, how cool would that have been?

Why, yes, I do believe they are. They are nowhere near as prog as
"pure" prog bands, but the thing I like about Death are the unusual
time signatures and mind-boggling drumming that I find in many prog
metal bands I like. Cynic is featured on prog archives, and Death is
somewhat similar (besides having the same drummer...), so why not
acknowledge the prog elements in Death. They did something special and
innovative, didn't they?

It would seem that non-prog metal people find the prog, yet prog people
don't. That's quite an awkward spot to be in.
By the way, in this thread, we're talking about Symbolic-on Death, not
Scream Bloody Gore-era Death.

I was more talking about the non-prog people from other forums. Who all

Death isn't prog... it might look a bit like, but well, jazz also, and classical music too then. Why not add them too?

The neoprog rotates "roundabout" the same thing, and that way seems dead. At the moment the prog could be alive in the new ways opened by bands like GYBE, Radiohead, Sigur Ròs, Mogwai or The Mars Volta.
